Clouse's Houses is my memoir of Architecture, Nature and Human Spirit. 

W H A T

I was born to an extremely artistic and creative young woman who was paralyzed at the age of 19 from polio.  Primed in creativity and design, and nurtured into the field of architecture, I also acquired a love for nature and the great outdoors.  

Stories of backpacking adventures and wilderness skills in conjunction with personal architectural endeavors, intertwine to reveal a connection -  or more significantly a separation - between the natural world and our man created houses.  Separation from nature, which can also bring separation from spirit.

Passionate creations as well as tragic losses are empowering experiences and Clouse's Houses is rich in both aspects.  It is a story of creative influence and eventual surrender.

 

W H Y

When you wake up at 3:00 in the morning with a vision of a book called Clouse's Houses stuck in your head, you figure you might as well get up and start typing!  And typing and typing... 

I had often thought to write about my mother and her tremendous life in spite of her confinement to a wheelchair, and I already had many outdoor stories to tell.  Now, along with my journey of art and architecture, it all synthesized clearly!

 

W H E N

The Funding from Kickstarted will be used for professional editing services, in preparation for submissions to publishing companies. Editing and refinement takes time, but within a year either a publishing contract will be secured or this project will be self published, and (either way) you will receive your book and/or other rewards!

 

H O W

The intent is not just to reach my kickstarter funding goal - - - but to exceed it!  But then there is of course the "bestseller" goal... and then you can say you saw it first on kickstarter!

 

COVER DESIGN

Designed by Carol Clouse, the cover art is a collage of my house design in Montana, one of my oil paintings called Flowers Fibonacci, and a photograph courtesy of Dennis Wotjowicz.

 

THE VIDEO

I would like to thank my nephew D Crosby Clouse for his creative efforts on my Kickstarted video, (especially working on it during the last 2 weeks of his senior finals at Bucknell University!)  

Credits also go to Crosby as the writer and performer of the rap Give a Dollar to the Daughter of My Grandfather.
