About this project

30 free admission events, 25 performing artists, 45 filmmakers, 2 1/2 years of planning, 285 visitors to date: 100% supported by individual donors like you.

I'm Sarah Best, a Chicago-based artist and film curator, and I'm opening the studio doors as an artist in residence at Hyde Park Art Center, March 4-25, to create a salon-style environment evoking the kinos or private avant garde art clubs of the 1920s in Soviet Russia.

My residency project, titled Dance Films Kino, is a three-week free admission festival presenting screenings of 20 works of dance on film, 20 films by emerging artists, and 15 live performances, additional film screenings, and talks. You'll be able to perch at a cabaret table and watch films by candlelight.

My goal is to make the experience of watching film and of art viewing in general to be more accessible to people who might be intimidated by traditional film festivals.

Learn more at http://www.dancefilmskino.com or get updates through Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you to the following organizations for adding us to their curated Kickstarter pages:

Threadless: http://www.kickstarter.com/pages/threadless
Gapers Block:http://www.kickstarter.com/pages/gapersblock
Dance Films Association:http://www.kickstarter.com/pages/dfa

All funds raised will go directly toward paying for film licensing fees and costs associated with building out the space.

A donation of $5 or more, helps to keep the festival free to everyone.

A donation of $12-25 pays for one of the interactive objects or cabaret tables in the space, or keeps us in candles for a week (all shows are lit by candles and vintage lightbulbs that create a soft glow in the space and encourages people to ask questions in between films)

A donation of $60-150 pays the film licensing fee for one of the 20 curated films we'll be showing.

Thank you for your support!
