What are we about?

Oly Foods is a catalyst for local prosperity, a medium that harnesses the power of the people, a path to a greener tomorrow.  Our mission is to strengthen our connection to the Earth, through innovation and technology.  Our goal is to empower our community with some the tools and resources needed to build a thriving local foods economy.

Oly Foods is centered around the desire for affordable, delicious and nutritious food.  Food that comes from sustainable and local sources; grown and made by the people in the community.  

We spoke with neighboring farms, bakeries, butchers and others involved in food production, learning that locally-sourced food is limited.  The legal, financial, logistical and educational barriers, inhibit small farms and producers from bringing their product to the shelf, or table.  By developing a shared kitchen space and a pool of resources, we hope to encourage our community to market their products in a cost-effective way.  

So Far...

The last two years we have offered a weekly pickup and home delivery service, via website ordering (OlympiaLocalFoods.com).  To alleviate the challenges our food producers face, we began a shared kitchen in Summer 2011.  The kitchen is not quite operational; it lacks a packing station to seal prepared foods.

Our 1600sq ft showroom is almost complete (2010 Black Lake Blvd).  It will feature local products  which are available for purchase. We hope to add two refrigerated merchandisers, for fresh local options. 

With your support

Local farms and producers will have access to a certified kitchen, a resource to market their goods, and the ability to pre-sell items (via our website), which in turn eliminates waste.  They will benefit from the cost efficiency of a pooled marketing campaign and access to an audience that might have otherwise been cost-prohibitive to reach.  

What's in it for you?

The Olympia area will benefit from the convenience of our online ordering system and home delivery.  Our showroom will make local food accessible during the week, while our shared kitchen will bring variety to our plates.  This in turn will provide a connection to the people who grow our food, bringing our community closer.

If you are outside of the Olympia area, your donation will help us develop a model that other communities can replicate.  Help us improve access to locally-sourced and sustainable food, one community at a time.
