When Alex Dezen and his sister Cameron were teeny, tiny children, they performed musicals in front of the stone fireplace in the house in New Jersey where they grew up. These ambitious productions were usually mash ups of Annie, Thriller and Grease. Alex would play the role of Michael Jackson, complete with sparkling silver glove and penny loafers, and Cameron would direct.

They got a little older and moved to New York City, where Alex starred on Broadway and simultaneously learned how to play Little Wing on the guitar.  The duo often performed the song, with Cameron on vocals and Alex on the Ibanez, for their mother's friends who happened to have been drafted into Thanksgiving dinner, or Easter, or were perhaps just stopping by to say hello-- one of whom was the late great fashion designer Stephen Sprouse, who enthusiastically encouraged Alex's guitar playing and Cameron's style--he designed her prom dress to go with her favorite Doc Martens'.

Time marched on and the pair toyed with the idea of starting a hip hop band, but abandoned that notion (thankfully) to go to college and then eventually get real jobs. Oh wait, no, that didn't happen. Nobody got a real job!

Cameron moved to Texas to marry multi-instrumentalist/producer/songwriter Matt Hammon--whom she'd had a crush on since seeing him play drums at The Stafford Opera House the summer after she graduated from high school. Matt helped shape and produce Alex's first batch of songs, and the two celebrated their relationship as brothers-in-law by going on tour together with an okay band Alex started called The Damnwells.  A few more years went by and, craving an outlet for his own songs, Matt started a band with Cameron called The Rebecca West, named for their favorite, early 20th century author. Alex liked the song they put on vimeo and asked to join the band. After a lengthy, heated deliberation (2.1 seconds) Matt and Cameron exclaimed over eggs benedict and bowls of coffee, "Yes! You're in the band!"

Since then the trio has recorded six, original songs of elegant. three-part harmonies, chimey acoustic guitars, haunting strings, skipping Weissenborn (David Chernis) and playful accordion (Josh Moore.) Some may think they sound a little bit like Mumford and Sons, or The Civil Wars (whom they love, and not just as friends), but they think their new album sounds most like the music they grew up on: Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul and Mary and Bob Dylan.

But maybe even better than that (what could be better than that?) they think it sounds like them. Really, truly, them.

This is the album we were meant to make ALL ALONG! ALL OUR LIVES! And it's almost finished. Help us get this thing finished and we promise we'll bring it to a fireplace stage near you.
