Imagine a news site that adapts to you and knows what's interesting to you and what not. That's Yones.
Ever wondered why it's quite often so stressful trying to read the news online? Fed up with being distracted by infos you just don't care about? Well, it's time to try Yones!
What is Yones?
Yones is a news site that recognizes your interests and adapts to them as they develop. As you use it, it gets to know you and creates a magazine filled with the stories you are into.
Yones searches the Internet for articles from many different sources, so that you don’t have to. It also assists you in deciding which news are more relevant to you than the other. All you need to care about while using Yones is actually reading your favorite news.
It’s like Google News combined with Pandora.

Why are we doing it?
In the first place, to make life easier. Yours and ours. We want to build aproduct which we can use on our own. The information overflow we’re facing today quite often leads to confusion, instead of knowledge. We believe that having instant access to the right information will let us save our valuable time and improve our awareness of the world around us.We also believe to be able to deeply change the way news are read on the Internet. The ideas we are working on are highly interesting to the whole industry of news. We don’t want to steal the content and the readers’ attention from the people who work hard on articles - quite the contrary. In collaboration with news sites we could offer you even a greater service, from which everybody would benefit.
But wait… Aren’t there enough websites doing news?
That’s true! Most of us will already have used at least one of the famous news aggregating services available on the Web. However, none of them consider your personal appetite for news. In addition to that we are still facing the problem of information overload. Yones aggregates news, keeps track about what you have already read and what is or might possibly be of some interest to you. But that’s not all. Unlike many existing news services, we give you the possibility to access your favorite news in various ways, i.e. via the Web, smartphone and tablet apps. It’s like your personal assistant for news and that exactly makes Yones so unique and powerful!
Wide aggregation
Yones automatically aggregates news from a constantly increasing number of sites. Of course, you as a user have the option to manually select the news sources you prefer or deselect those you find less important. In addition to that, you can simply add any news site of your choice if you don’t find it in our list.

Currently, we recommend articles in four languages. Nevertheless, the mechanism working behind Yones is really extensible, so that soon you will be able to receive articles in nearly every language you speak.
Deep personalization
A few of the existing news services also attempt to personalize the set of articles served to their users. Typically, they create the user’s profile based on what the social media tell about him. Yones tries to draw a complete picture from your interests by relying more on what you actually read. Our main workhorse are the algorithms which in the first line find out what is interesting to you rather than what is popular among other users of social media. So don’t worry, you can equally benefit from Yones even if you don’t use any social networks.
We are going far beyond a simple keyword lookup, which would typically mean that the relevance of an article to a particular user is measured just by the occurrence of certain keywords associated with this user. Instead, Yones is an innovative technology that uses methods of artificial intelligence designed specifically for online articles. Like a friend it knows what you like and what you don’t like. It constantly updates its knowledge and evolves as your interests do. Thanks to the neat alignment of the different algorithms you can always focus on what really matters to you, but still don’t have to worry about missing something that could possibly be of interest to you.

Yones’ advantage also consists of a well-thought balance between artificial intelligence and user freedom. That’s why we developed browser extensions, which keep on running in the background and enhance the learning process, even when you’re not reading news on Yones right now. We also designed the user interface to be intuitive and easy to use, not leaving too much of the personalization work to you. Even though it is fair enough to say that you know best yourself what you prefer, solutions which require you to manually adjust your reading preferences often just lack user-friendliness. This is especially true when you just want to read your news instantly and not to care about the possible combinations of keywords, categories etc.
What have we done so far?
So far we’ve been able to implement the learning algorithms to an extent that already allows good-quality recommendations. We’ve set up a working website, which you can try out with all its features. You can also download the Yones extensions for the major Internet browsers to let the algorithm work for you. And finally, if you’re an owner of an iPhone or an Android device, then the Yones App is waiting for you as early preview at your App Store.

Why are we on Kickstarter?
We have developed a cool product prototype and we want to spread it among other people. We want to involve you as a user at this early stage and give you the chance to be a part of it as it gets bigger and better. With Kickstarter, we’re sure to have the best chances to do that.
When will we be finished?
Yones is a real project in every aspect, with clearly defined goals, and not just another open-end business. Our main goal, as already mentioned, is to create an integrated, versatile news service. This means the development of applications for smartphones and tablets with different operating systems, in order to make the access to news as easy as possible to you. Furthermore, we want to refine the algorithm and set up a more advanced Web interface. Once we’ve done that, we will consider the product as complete. Not including, of course, our ongoing commitment to improve the usability or add some aesthetic, nice-to-have features.
Why we need your help
It’s pretty simple. The powerful algorithms, which serve each user individually, require more server capacity than we can provide at the moment. Investments have to be made in Yones’ hardware infrastructure to make it more scalable and let the increasing number of users become an advantage for the whole community and not a burden. This particularily means that we want to buy additional servers. The more people are using Yones the more servers we will need. We will spend every additional Dollar to make Yones more scaleable and to make a better product. Just for you.
We can guarantee to pay the server costs for 5 years from now on and after that - if we don't continue running Yones - we will make the whole project available to the community as an Open Source Software.
On our mission towards providing an all-in-one news service to you we also particularly value human creativity. We need your feedback, your ideas and your passion to make our dream come true to finally get a personal news assistant that we all would love to use.
See you on Yones!
