I am a life long builder, hacker, maker and coder. In the past half dozen years my passion has been building CNC and other digital fabrication equipment. Everything I have ever done in this area is open source.
I run a web site called buildlog.net. This web site is dedicated to hosting build logs of people's CNC projects. Lately, it has a heavy laser cutter focus. It is the home of the popular 2.x open source laser cutter.
I have had my work featured on Make, Instructables, Hackaday, Boing Boing, and hundreds of others. I am very proud of all work I have done. I go by bdring on most sites. Feel free to Google me or ask my forum members about my reputation.

Does anyone know how to contack Barton Dring ?
Thanks
+1 for MakerBeam's comment about a miniaturized version.
Hi,
I pledge a $1.00, what can I buy and what is the cost?
Thanks, Larry
Got my Makerslide today and I have to say it all looks to be excellent. I LOVE the look of the black anodized piece. I cannot wait until you can start anodized varieties from your store. In the meantime maybe people can do it themselves:

I got my Makerslide and it looks great. I made a video of the unboxing. I am so happy with the execution of this project. Great job Barton. http://www.makermasters.com/makerslide-a-first-look-at-an-open-source-linear-bearing-system

Got my MakerSlide reward today... Great job Barton! Its been an honor backing your project!
I received my makerslide reward. It looks great! Excellent execution Bart.
Bart, I thought I would let you know about the articles I have put out on Makerslides recently. I am looking forward to getting my Slides so that I can begin working on two things we mentioned when we spoke.

Yes...and the actual price may come down a bit from that at the time of shipment.
On the $1-31 reward survey, you list nylon spacers at $25 each. Do you actually mean $0.25 each?
Bart, you are awesome. Thank you for putting in all of the hard work to make this happen.
I can't wait to build the laser.
FYI: While we are waiting for the material to arrive, there are some fun ideas getting kicked around over at buildlog.net

Well done!
Personally I am hoping this system leads to open source medium power cnc router
All the best

Congrats on such a succesful project!
We have another sponsored MakerShip project!
It is a simple camera dolly. There is a write up on it here...

The Delrin wheels on steel V's I currently use are almost silent, so this will work well for this project.
Go Bart! I remember when you mentioned this last year, glad to see it go so well.
It won't surprise you to hear I'm keenly interested in a miniature version of MakerSlide! Drop me an email sometime...
It's good to see someone tackling this problem. I've wanted a CNC platform for ages, but I was never very enthusiastic about using old printer parts to get the slides. Some extrusion manufacturers have alternatives, but the ones I saw didn't appear to be able to handle very much use.
I'm really looking forward to playing around with this system.
Congrats on exceeding the pledge goal. I'm looking forward to the CNC router build.
Barton,
I posted a link to your site at http://www.cnczone.com/, The MakerSlide
Nice one - I'll buy some of this... see if I can get it to work as a video-camera slider... it costs about 8x less than the cheapest alternative.
Really like the modular aspect as well. I came to this page via a story about open-source laser-cutters... and what you're doing looks a little like a high-tech lego-type approach for making really quite sophisticated machines.
Great idea - happy to support this - I'll definitely be buying some of this stuff.
You're right about the rails being one of the biggest areas of cost/complexity - the other being the drive system. I hope you'll think about creating some future variant of this that has an integrated drive capability - I'm thinking something along the lines of a rack that could be just built in to the extrusion somehow. A stepper powered follower plate would be a really nice addition too.
Congrats that you've got your funding!
I plan to do an open source CNC router with this material. I don't think a second "project" will be required. I plan to start the project in late June. The design process will be documented at buildlog.net, just like the 2.x was.
Great work. I pledged for $128, but i'm more interested in a full CNC router- and/or 2.x laser kit. I hope you will add this. If it is too much for this project, maybe a second project?
We have our first sponsored "MakerShip" project!
This is the SYSGRO project. It 3D printer project that uses a digital light projector to create a model out of UV resin. They want to use some MakerSlide on the column that moves the build platform.

Can't wait to get an update on the timeline for availability, this looks great although it may be a stretch for the medium duty wood routing I plan on doing, although I always feed slow. Any idea on the weight capacity of a single v-bearing bracket?
If you can present it visually via sketch, CAD, Sketchup, etc, I will definitely consider it. I could use a pick and place machine!
Great work, I'm looking forward to getting the MakerSlide components. I'm interested in building my own Laser (you've got that covered) :). Also, I'm interested in making a small SMT/SMD pick-n-place machine for proto/small run builds. Dunno, if that's of interest for your MakerShip program.
FYI: A detailed rendering of the Sketching in CNC video is here.

I only gave $1 at this point, but I intend to give more when I can! This project opens up so many opportunities!!
#92, even after your goal has been reached, think this project deserves support! Best of luck
Congratulations from me too. Well done, great work!
Proud to be #72!
Congratulation Bart! Your dream just became a reality.
Glad to be #75.
Great work Bart.
Thanks
Went past the funding mark with 28 days to go! Congratulations.
I *love* this idea. Spent too long getting depressed looking at expensive linear slide systems!
$500 to go.
Excellent Idea - I'd like to use it for an implementation of my project: CubeSpawn - which is also open source! ;-)
Thanks Bart :D
I think this is really exciting !!
