A stunning original dance work, "Sate of Matter" by EU choreographer Ihsan Rustem, has been selected for inclusion in the 25th (2011) Hannover Choreographic Competition held in Germany on April 23 and 24, 2011. We just found out this incredible news last week! Selection for this festival came down to 16 pieces out of hundreds that were submitted. We will be meeting and performing with 15 other companies from around the world. We were the only American company to be selected. This fearless troupe of kick ass contemporary ballet dancers aims to take Europe by storm on this their first out-of-country performance.

This dynamic and beautiful piece was initially set on Portland, Oregon's world-class contemporary ballet company, Northwest Dance Project, in the fall of 2010. The choreographer, Ihsan (EEE-sahn), was instantly attached to the undeniably charismatic dancers and hasn't been able to shake the idea of bringing them over to Europe since his work premiered on our Portland stage. There is a high likelihood he would kidnap them and keep them in his bungalow in Switzerland for good company and general cheer on rainy days. The dancers are willing to take that risk and really, who could resist such a guy when he can dance AND speak five different languages?
Ahem, we digress...
This project will enable some of the company (7 classically trained, professional dancers) to travel to Hannover, Germany (bratwursts!!!) to work with the choreographer to refine and rehearse the ballet and perform it at the international dance festival. We will be performing at Hannover's gorgeous Opera House. The money we raise from kickstarter will go towards funding travel expenses to and from Germany as well as the dancers' salaries during the week prior and week of the festival...and possibly a few of those tasty bratwursts and famous German beer (bier) if we exceed our goal... We have a good start from a few generous fans, family, friends and board members, now we are asking you to seal the deal!
The journey will be documented (film, photo, audio commentary, bloopers) and the resulting media will be used for a documentary project on the company which we sincerely hope to share with YOU.
