WORK/PLAY is seeking funding for one tabletop press and a few cabinets of lead type to preserve the art of printmaking.
Instead of spending a portion of your hard earned cash on frivolous things, you can put some of it towards an art-worthy cause that can truly benefit St. Louis. WORK/PLAY Print Shoppe is opening in the historical Grove area of St. Louis and we need YOUR help to preserve and promote the art of printmaking. Our studio space will be outfitted in three ways: letterpress, silkscreen printing and digital photography; and it has to be done by our opening on October 1 for Grovefest.
Many of you have seen our work all over the city, come out to our exhibitions and have even purchased pieces of our work. We are happy to say that we can now officially move our work from the living room in our 1 - bed apt to a studio in the city! Silk-screening posters, bags, coasters, etc have always been our cup of tea but a small percentage of you know that we have also been throwing letterpress into the mix. In the past, we have had to rent time on other peoples presses or make our own DIY machinery for printing and no one ever knew the difference, but now that’s all about to change!
In order for us to continue making cool printed goods and to further educate the masses, we need to raise some dinero within 30 days! For those of you that are left scratching your head on what letterpress is, let me clearly explain: letterpress is the relief printing of text and image using a printing press with a "type-high bed" and movable type.
WORK/PLAY, or Wp for short needs your help to purchase one table-top press and various lead type to get started on this entire project. Your pledges will definitely be going to a group of artists that will utilize this lost craft. We have plans to provide classes for both adults and adolescents as well as provide scholarships for underprivileged teens that have an interest for printmaking. We will host workshops that will involve local and national established artists. With that said, your donations towards printmaking equipment will be utilized by all and not just us.
Thanks for your support!
