Hiring and directing a seventy-member symphony orchestra to rehearse and record four original symphonic works over a two-day period in Roanoke, Virginia. Each day will consist of two 3 hour sessions with a 1 hour break between. The four works: "American Journey," "Elegy" from Symphony No. 1, "In Memoriam-The Victims of 9-11," and the seven movement suite: "Millcreek." 96% of the amount requested will go to the hiring of the musicians at fifty dollars per hour. . The remainder will cover rental of the hall a two-person recording crew. The completed CDs will be sent to orchestras in the USA and abroad. Scores and parts have been meticulously prepared and proofread via Sibelius software. Donors of specific amounts will receive a CD of the four compositions, a Margolis composition brochure and autographed score pages. Donors of $10,000 will have one of the four works dedicated to them in an autographed edition. Maestro Margolis has composed more than 200 major works for orchestra, choir, music theater, jazz, opera, ballet, plays, chamber ensemble, solo piano and percussion ensemble. He is a member of ASCAP, MENC, Jazz Educators, Society of Arrangers and prior to retirement a member of Local 47 Los Angeles Musicians Union.He has taught at both the college and highschool level, many of his students are world-famous while more than 100 teach in conservatories and universities.Margolis, himself, holds four degrees in music including a Ph.d. Margolis' compositions have been performed in a variety of venues including theater, film, stage, concert hall, university, etc. He is also active as a writer on music and aesthetics and an avid history buff. In 2006 Jerry and his wife of 47 years, Ann, relocated to rural Virginia from Los Angeles. They live in Boones Mill with their wheaten puppy "Brendan." Jerry composes in his at-home studio, conducts several area ensembles and continues to perform widely as a keyboardist with  jazz quintets and big bands. On March 5th his "Civil War Soldier" will receive its world premiere by The Roanoke Symphony. During the past year he has had performances of his piano sonata, clarinet sonata, clarinet octet, string quartet, several choral works, the jazz variations suite, digital media scores, works for concert band and chamber orchestra.

1960-66 active in Philadelphia and NYC as pianist, session player, arranger, composer; 1966-1970 Music Director of Performing Arts, Bennett College; Music Director HEW Project Upward Bound, Dutchess County, NY; 1970-2006 Music Director, Performing Arts Chair, Harvaard-Westlake School in Los Angeles; member Local 47 Musicians Union, Society of Arrangers, MENC, Jazz Educators, Film Music Society, ASCAP. Los Angeles keyboardist, arranger, orchestrator, conductor, composer, teacher, clinician.Students include many qwell-known composers and performers, teachers in conservatories. Retired to rural Virginia 2006, very active as composer, conductor, orchestrator and performer in symphony, chamber music, jazz, music theater, etc. Jerry and his beautiful wife and 'muse' Ann live in Boones Mill with their wheaten terrier "Brendan." Margolis has his music studio on the lower floor of their house which is adjacent to the Blue Ridge Mountains and a farm.
