Hi, I’m Stacey. I'm a visual artist based in Marin County, CA and the founder of Local Art Producions. A few years ago I started showing my paintings and quickly realized that a large part of my sale price was going to a curator.  I just plain thought this was stupid and it didn’t serve the Art Buying community or the Artist.  Especially in this economy  where people are looking for reasonable prices on luxury items.  I believe that everyone should be able to afford to have art in their homes.  So I got together with a group of local artists with similar views and we set out to throw our own art shows where there would be no curator, thus giving the power back to the artist. In doing this we could sell amazing art at reasonable prices and the community could afford to support the local art scene. We have done two bare bones shows in a local bar, with a few artists that were successful, but now word has spread and the number of participants has grown.  So I started the Local Art Productions Company and we are now embarking on throwing a show this September with 23 artists.  But as you know producing a show is not cheap, especially with 23 artists. We need to rent a larger space which costs more money and there are many other costs including:  materials, printing, instillation fees, advertisement,  food, and  music. So while the artists are doing their part in helping to set up and clean up, there are simply expenses that need to be covered. I want to be able to provide an environment for these up and coming local artists to be in control of their own career by hanging and selling their work themselves thus taking down any boundaries between art buyers and artists.
