PDX Adult Soapbox Derby is an annual collaboration of teams that build and race their own art and science cars down Mt. Tabor Park.
Now in it's 16th year, Portland's PDX Adult Soapbox Derby is a well-loved summertime tradition at Mt. Tabor Park. The derby is a community art event drawing a crowd of over 5,000 people who come to watch the true color of this sidesplitting spectacle and check out some cool coaster cars. It's a camaraderie of 39 teams who accept the challenge of designing and building a gravity car. Some focus on speed while others test themselves with engineering themes.
The teams must build their own cars and race down Mt. Tabor three times before the championship rounds. Winners receive awards for speed, engineering, art, crowd pleasure and many more.
The PDX adult soapbox derby is a well organized venue of 100+ volunteers who all (from the top down) donate their time to keeping Portland weird and this annual event alive.
The expenses for the Derby are staggering and climb to new heights every year. We are turning to our fans and users of Kickstarter to help offset some of the costs and make for a more pleasurable race day for all of Portland.
All proceeds raised will go to the Race.
