About this project
Who are we? We are Jessamine Starr and George Long of the Good Food Truck and we love to play with our food. We take some basic food items that everyone knows like hot dogs and beans and rice and turn them on their heads to create menu items that are addictively delicious, fun to eat, and completely unique. We deliver these bites in our adorable, yet temperamental, 1972 Dodge ice cream truck to the greater Atlanta area. Some of our menu items include:
The Poodle-a beef hot dog in a french toast bun that is topped with apple-maple slaw, mustard, and syrup.
Island Cone-A spicy tamarind waffle cone filled with jerk black beans and coconut rice and topped with mango sour cream and ripe plantains.
Mini Parmesan Cone-A small parmesan waffle cone filled with watermelon-arugula salad and topped with black salt.
Peach Biscuit-A homemade buttermilk biscuit filled with half a grilled peach, moonshine jelly, and fresh buttermilk cheese.
Chocolate Nachos-Chocolate covered corn chips topped with queso fresco served with a side of strawberry-mint salsa.
What are we doing? Well, we are trying to bring street food to Atlanta. It can be found in the majority of the world but Atlanta's antiquated laws make it pretty hard to just hit the street - so we are working with The Atlanta Street Food Coalition and City Council members to change the laws so that we can sell on a day to day basis. In the meantime we have been selling our food at local farmer's markets, non-profit events, and catering. We have had an incredible response so far - the people of Atlanta are starving for street food and the city leaders have definitely taken note of the excitement. The city is even backing one of the Coalitions events.
Why are we fundraising? For a few reasons. Because of the laws, we have not been able to work the truck on a full time basis (and therefore make a steady income)-but we think that it is very important that there are real food trucks out there so that everyone can see what they are like. We also have chosen an incredibly cute truck that brought more mechanical problems with it than we could ever imagine. We had repaired just about everything on it when the engine blew and our budget blew along with it. The $4200 we are asking for will pay for our new engine but we are still in need of a few more items like a flat top grill, steam table, and a windshield so any money we raise over that amount will go directly to those items.
Thank you so much for your help. We really appreciate it!
