A very unique Queer story that all LGBTQ communities can relate to!

What Is your donation for?

A show we have been working on for a couple of years called Ser: LA vs BA has been accepted to the Downtown Urban Theatre Festival in New York! We really want to go but we need help to get there! Your funds will be used to get us to NY.

What is the show about?

Ser: LA vs BA is a transnational queer tale of choosing between Buenos Aires: the soccer mecca burning in Karen's heart, and Los Angeles: the land of peace and plenty. In the middle of it all she fights her way out of dresses and into soccer gear and faces yet another question: Who will be the object of her affection, the boys on the field or the girls in the stands?

What is the developmental history of Ser: LA vs BA?

Karen developed Ser: LA vs BA for two years with the LA Writers Center, where Che'Rae is the Producing Artistic Director. She performed it throughout Los Angeles, making her debut at Casa 0101.  A version of Ser: LA vs BA was later seen at the REDCAT Theatre’s Fall Studio in 2008, and a workshop was presented with Teada Productions at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center shortly after.  In 2009, it received a full reading at the New Alignments Reading Series co-produced by The Syzygy Theatre Group and The LA Writers Center which was followed by a workshop at the Company of Angels. That workshop lead to a full production at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2010. When the show goes to DUTF in March, it will be making it's East Coast Premiere!

What is DUTF?

The Downtown Urban Theatre Festival has been recognized as one of the world´s best festivals for new works and described as not only prestigious, but a slice of heaven for playwrights who want the chance to freely express themselves. From an inclusive, multicultural perspective, DUTF presents works that echo the true spirit of urban life and speak to a whole new generation whose lives defy categorizing along conventional lines.

DUTF´s mission is to:
– Promote diversity by showcasing diverse theatrical expression;
– Foster the development of new works by a cross-section of artists whose work tend to be under-represented;
– Expand the horizons for playwrights and their audiences; and
– Cultivate new diverse audiences by making theater more affordable and accessible.
