Sarah Elizabeth Greer is found by her "bio", which completely shifts her Reality. And suddenly EVERY impossibility becomes possible.

Introducing the true-to-life story of Sarah Elizabeth Greer, a free spirit who
grew up feeling like she just didn’t belong. Raised in the quiet Pennsylvania Dutch town of New Holland, Sarah’s world is turned upside down when her quirky, over-the-top Greek biological mother crashes into her life. The spark between Sarah and her "bio" brings Sarah the sudden promise of understanding, connection and new meaning to her existence, but it ends up propelling her into confusion, an identity crisis, and the all-too-familiar feelings of rejection. Ultimately, Sarah's journey of feeling lost, being found, and getting lost all over again, sends her on a hilarious, moving, and often pathologically extreme quest to try to come to terms with her life and overall purpose in the world.

Part screwball comedy and part Greek Tragedy, Sarah’s journey has been like no other. No one else in the world has ever put a fake bump in their nose, or videotaped one of their restaurant customers giving birth or shown up to their initial meeting with Robert DeNiro dressed in African dashiki attire. By baring her soul and the unique tragicomedy of her life onstage, Sarah empowers all of us to embrace our own stories in order to seize our destiny. Her simple but powerful message to adoptees, orphans, and anyone who has ever felt pain and rejection: BE WHO YOU WERE MEANT TO BE.

BIO-HAZARD: a relative comedy is a universal human story of feeling lost, facing rejection, and searching for the acceptance one can only find within.

The One-Woman Show

Between 1999 and 2001, Sarah crafted and performed the stories of BIO-
HAZARD as part of a solo performance workshop at the Westbeth Theatre Center, NYC. In November 2001, she performed the work as part of Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Oktoberfest, with Karen Trott directing. That same year she also mounted it as a 90-minute work-in-progress during the HA! Comedy Festival. The stories continued to be told in a variety of small downtown New York venues over the next few years, which led to two 2.5-hour staged readings (directed by Valentina Fratti) in September 2005 as part of the Artists of Tomorrow Series, produced by Six Figures Theatre Company, NYC. In 2009, Sarah performed a Virginia Scott-directed version of BIO-HAZARD every other Monday night in March, April and June at The Peoples Improv Theater to sold-out crowds. The show climaxed with a surprise appearance by Sarah’s actual biological mother, who joined her onstage for a baton twirling routine and to teach the audience a Greek dance.

Today, after 10 painstaking years of stand-up acts, staged readings, solo performances and comedy festivals, BIO-HAZARD is FINALLY READY for a self-produced Off-Broadway run in New York City and a self-produced week long run in Los Angeles! It’s time for the show to be in front of producers, agents and film and television people. It’s ready for the BIG TIME! Sarah is now working with Dr. Paula T. Alekson (her best friend from Mount Holyoke College) as her dramaturge. Together, Sarah and Paula have created the master version of BIO-HAZARD, which is slated to premiere during the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket’s 2011 season, with projected runs in New York City and Los Angeles within the year.

What Sarah Needs

Your financial support!!!

Until now, BIO-HAZARD has been supported solely by Sarah’s day job as a star waitress at the same Chelsea restaurant (for the past decade). Believe it or not, an Off-Broadway multimedia performance of this scale cannot be funded on tips alone. The funds from this Kickstarter campaign will help pay the rental fee for the theater, complete the video animations, support the creation of the set, props and costumes, and cover other costs like publicity, sound and light rental, CD printing and transportation. Since BIO-HAZARD will have its out-of-town premiere at The Theatre Workshop of Nantucket, Sarah will also need to get herself, her props and her director to Nantucket. For the Los Angeles run, she will not only have to rent a theater space and pay for sound and lights, she will also have to pay for plane tickets, meals and accommodations.

So have a heart! Show Sarah that her life’s work has not been in vain and support her message that it takes a lifetime (or in Sarah’s case, half a lifetime) to become who we were truly meant to become, by supporting her show.
