About this project
Hey everyone,
Passalacqua here. If you haven't watched the video yet and are trying to figure out how to pronounce it, it's PASS-UH-LOCK-WHA.
We've been performing a lot this year. Motor City Casino, Ann Arbor Art Fair, a boatload of venues in Detroit, and two shows in North Carolina. A few good folks down there want us back for a third show, and we're ecstatic about venturing South yet again.
Now, the excursion to North Carolina can decimate one's wallet, especially when one's income is modest at best. We've put together this Kickstarter to see if you'd like to contribute to our adventure to The Getdown, and we'll reward you with all sorts of nice things as a Thank You (though honestly, our gratitude is unquantifiable).
The $500 would afford us plane tickets South. Any additional donations will be put towards enhancing the live shows and new Passalacqua merch (the latter, you'll get first dibs on! Because, y'know, we love you.)
The video should explain things pretty well. Give the page a gander, and visit our websites for music and more information.
You're the best,
-Passalacqua

Mergence – in the tradition of Mos Def and Talib Kweli (Black Star)’s masterful balancing of respective rap signatures, Detroit-based MC’s Mister and Blaksmith have symbiotically stitched together an EP of keen, canny rhymes that vary in shades, inflected their own personal influences, but wrapped and worn gracefully together upon the same provocative quilt.
“Every road has a bit of a wind / Each one with a specific design / Many a difference between yours and mine, and yet, we ended up following the same signs…” Now, whenever times get tough, Mister & Blaksmith, “bust out with the rhymes,” united as Passalacqua. And in the same regard as the lyrics (from their debut EP’s “Been a Minute,”) the pair shared a resurgence of pure inspiration when they reunited in late 2009 (having not seen each other since 7th grade Science class).
The dynamic meshing of their respective styles (a blend of Old School hip/hop, East Coast rap, the murkier underground and boisterous pop-angled rap) is galvanized by their inventive live presentations, conceptual, theatrical, almost performance art; altogether curious and highly engaging. Audiences often exclaim that the allure is that one doesn’t know what they’ll do next. That’s what distinguishes Passalacqua; “Let the rap be the constant,” Blaksmith said, “everything else is whatever.”
Cathartic, rejuvenating, and a portrait of two lives, two separate trails of influence, two burgeoning writers’ minds in the ever shifting hip/hop realm, merging. Dense, agile wordplay atop strutting night-drive grooves and subtle flares of funk, soul & Motown. Find the Passalacqua EP at tomandbootsy.com
