Our ‘Brazilian Espresso Bar’ will help us showcase the beautiful coffee my family has been growing in Brazil since the 1890’s
The Brazilian Espresso Bar, a farm to cup coffee experience
So what does a Brazilian Espresso Bar mean exactly? When you walk up to our space, you will feel welcomed, and invited to share a cup of coffee with us. Our menu will not only feature excellent Espressos, Lattes, Americanos, and Cappuccinos, but it will also feature a traditional Brazilian 'Cafezinho' as well as some traditional Brazilian bites, both savory and sweet.
The espresso bar will be built inside the roastery, with a roll-up door leading to a dock perfect for hanging out and people watching. Our space is in the Pearl District on NW 13th and Johnson, a great corner with lots of foot traffic. We are just across the street from REI and PNCA (college of arts), so lots of people around to make this viable!
At the espresso bar we will also sell freshly roasted coffee beans and you'll be able to see part of the roasting operation as you sip your coffee and become integrated in the full cycle of the coffee!
We will have limited sitting outside (on these pleasant Portland days), but to stay true to traditional coffee bars in Brazil, and to make this flow well with our roastery this will be a standing espresso bar (great chance to stretch out those legs!).
Project Details: To pull this off we will be doing lots of work on our own. The funding will help us with plumbing, electrical, and coffee equipment. The total project cost is expected to be $25,000. But because we hope to do lots of work ourselves we are looking for $15,000. The total contractor and permitting fees add up to $5,000. The remainder will cover a high end Espresso Machine, grinders and all the small wares and accessories needed to open a cafe. We have a friend drawing the espresso bar in detail, and we will post it here as we make progress.
The Background Story: In 2005 I started importing and selling my family's coffee to showcase the beautiful coffee they have been growing for over 120 years (and 5 generations!). Thus the name 'Nossa Familia,' which literally means 'our family.'
It has been a personal dream come true to establish our roastery and to share my family's coffee on the wholesale level. Now I would like your help to make this a possibility. This will be a truly farm and 'family direct' Espresso bar where we'll celebrate 'cream of the crop' single origin coffees.
Thank you for reading and I hope you can join me for a 'Cafezinho' soon!
PS - you can find much more about my family's sustainable coffee growing practices, Cup of Excellence awards, and more at our Nossa Familia Coffee website: www.familyroast.com

You are too nice! To do this, simply click on a pledge. On the next window you will be able to manually change the dollar amount. Change it to 2 or 3 (or more) times the pledge of your interest and add the one time $8 for shipping. We will only charge you shipping once, unless you want the coffee shipped to separate addresses as gifts.
We understand that things come up and plans change. We will offer the following refund policy on cancellation: By January 1, 2013 - 90%; By March 1, 2013 - 75%; By April 1, 2013 - 50%. We hope that you can sign up, and that the trip works out, it is truly an awesome life experience!
It is a long way down to Brazil, so we definitely recommend that you extend your trip a few days afterwards (or arrive beforehand). While Augusto won't be your personal tour guide in Rio we can recommend an itinerary and places to visit and stay! Traveling inside Brazil is safe with lots of options of flights and interstate buses. About 1/2 of visitors on our previous tours have extended their stay to visit places such as Rio de Janeiro, Iguacu Falls and Sao Paulo.
We run this trip on a flexible schedule. We plan the days so that there is a great balance of group activities personal recreational time (whether that is reading a book, running, hiking or Mt.biking). Meals are all family style, with ingredients grown at the farm or from a farmer's market (which we will visit!). Take a look at the Brazil trip webpage (http://www.familyroast.com/brazil/index.htm) for the itinerary. As an example of the flexibility, we've had folks that wanted to walk for 1-2hrs before breakfast, others who wanted to do yoga, or bike up the coffee hills at the end of the day. It's a laid back atmosphere and we can usually acommodate these activities into the schedule!
You are way cool! To do this, simply click on the first pledge. On the next window you will be able to manually change the dollar amount. Change it so that it adds up to the desired pledges. We will then contact you to make sure you get the exact pledges you wanted!
