Since I don't have an edit option, pleas allow me to apologize to Bob Fass for being so hard on him. We go back a very long time and there was a moment in that time when I was falsely accused of instituting censorship at the station. I wish Bob had spoken up at that time—he didn't. Perhaps he just didn't want to get involved, I can sort of understand that. Anyway, we just had a good talk and I will be on his show this week. I look forward to it.

If my previous post can be removed, I think we would all benefit from it.

I think your film is a good idea, but be careful not to go overboard, and please check facts. I have known Bob for about 45 years and had been fired by my predecessor when I took over as manager. I brought him back and would not have done so if I didn't think the station deserved him. Since that time, Bob has shown me his other side, which is not quite as praiseworthy as you might think. Today, frankly, he is WBAI's token leftover—we all like a little nostalgia from time to time, but there also comes a time when we need to keep up with the world. Bob is stuck in time and he remains quiet as the WBAI becomes the very kind of station we were supposed to offer an alternative to. This week I have heard silly chats about astrological signs, unbelievably boring and inept rambles on weaponry (on a pacifist station, no less) and hours and hours of bland pop music presented with less authority than we have been hearing elsewhere on the dial, for decades.

Please look into that sort of thing and bear it in mind as you build your virtual pedestal.

In the end, Abbie was able to attend the event and did not get arrested. The masks undoubtable helped and now you too can be Abbie Hoffman and own a piece of countercultural history.
