Update #28: Cotton Mather Reunion- SXSW 2012

Posted on March 6

Since we decided to reunite for SXSW in honor of the Kontiki release, you may have noticed we didn't throw a Valentines Party.

Dana is coming to town Friday  and so is Josh. It's going to be The Big Picture lineup, with the occasional George Reiff sighting. I hope some of you will be able to be here for this madness. It's a week-long celebration.

Here's the info on where to find us

Cotton Mather Reunion Shows for SXSW 2012

Tuesday March 13 Midnight     Art Disaster Party       The Beauty Bar- 617 E 7th

Wednesday March 14th 10AM    KUT live at The Four Seasons

Wednesday March 14th  5PM         Blurt Magazine & Dogfish Head Party   The Ginger Man, 301 Lavaca Street
Also, here is the link where people can RSVP for the event in advance:   http://industryofmusic.eventbrite.com/

Friday March 16th    5:30 PM      Dogwood  715 W 6th St  Austin, TX 78701   (512) 531-9062

Saturday March 17th  9PM  SXSW Showcase   The Soho Lounge  217 E. 6th Street

We recommend early arrival for best chance at getting into these, especially at Soho Lounge, if you don't have a wristband or badge.
The Beauty Bar will pack out early I imagine.
Its difficult to predict the crowds at SXSW but you should probably assume that it might get crowded.
You will likely be able to buy a ticket at the door for Soho show, but I'd get there well before the first act starts at 8PM to make certain.

I don't know yet if non-conference attendees would be admitted into the Four Seasons event. Its early and I'd recommend sleep. You can always turn on your radio if you're dying to hear what Harrison sounds like after a late show the night before.

Wish I could have been in Austin last week, but since I couldn't, I'm wondering if there's any video of the shows you might put up on the web, so some of us die-hard fans can get a glimpse of the shows? I've combed through YouTube, and so far only a two videos are up. Would love to see more!

SO sad I couldn't make it to SXSW for all the shows! You totally need to update your Facebook page with all the articles and radio interview links and, of course, and/all photos and video. I'll be happy to be an admin for the page and set it all up. Just let me know!

Update #27: Valentines Day 2012

Posted on February 14

As my house came to life this morning, I thought about the significance of Valentines Day 2012 for me. Flowers are in transit. Chocolate and cards were distributed.  But my Valentines gift is the release of Kontiki Deluxe, thanks to your generous donations. Now the world gets a second chance to hear it. Thank you.

Now for a few practical matters

1. Everyone who ordered CDs, hats, and shirts should have those by now. If you haven't received them,  please alert me. Posters and a selection of high-end specialty items are still trickling out of here, due to the great Harrison postage calamity of 2011 ( in which I only sought the opinions of people in my household when estimating postage costs. we're optimists around here).

2. Those of you who chose the download option can get your codes at last. Just email me, and i'll respond with a download code. If you want to change to physical CD, that's fine as well. Its mighty pretty.

3. Cotton Mather are re-uniting for SXSW, and will perform at least four shows  in celebration of the Kontiki Deluxe release. Dana and Josh are both coming into town! Look for all the relevant details on the Star Apple Kingdom website- Cotton Mather section. If you are not attending the conference as such, some of the events will be parties open to the public. I will keep you posted.

4. Some nice press is already coming in- most notably The Austin Chronicle piece that ran in the current issue. We'll also be posting that on the website. Spread the word.

Happy Valentines Day

Robert

Hope so, hate to miss 'em.

Update #25: Where's My Stuff Harrison?!!!!

Posted on December 14

Well we're getting there

They are starting to give me funny  looks at the post office

I'm just the guy you want in front of you in line during Christmas season, wrangling the best deals for foreign shipping and clogging up the joint.

So while you're camped by the mailbox please consider the following quiz...

My unconventional method of estimating all the Kontiki shipping costs without ever consulting postal rates has lead to:

A. a new job in the post office accounting department

B. a surplus of funds!

C. more praise and admiration in my home

D. a small funds crisis because i didn't allocate enough- and therefore the posters will need to shipped after Christmas and we're having an Austin pick-up party

I'm afraid the answer is D

But everyone who is supposed to will get posters. They are signed by the artist, J.J. Campbell. Several people have told me they assumed I was signing them, which I'm happy to do. So if you do NOT want me to sign your poster please tell me.It really won't hurt my feelings

As for "pick-up party" I was going to start all the Austin deliveries personally tomorrow, when the pragmatic and always helpful Hollie Thomas suggested,"tell us all where to meet you and we can pick up our stuff and celebrate".

WOW- brilliant!

I certainly don't mind playing Santa, but there are whole a lot of these...So, anybody up for a beer and a Kontiki hand-off this weekend with  Cotton Mather and Future Clouds Crime family members possibly attending? What the hell...I'm throwing a

Kontiki pick-up party Saturday December 16th from  6PM- 8PM

Dog and Duck Pub

406 W 17th St  Austin, TX 78701

(512) 479-0598

Come on down

RSVP here to let  me know if you're coming and I'll bring your stuff.

I'll be the guy slumped in the corner, incognito,  watching the door.

Hope to see you

PS Please nobody fly in from France for this. That would put too much pressure on me

Update #24: Whoops! that was wrong- this is right... some things to do while you wait for the postman

Posted on December 9

Hi Kontiki fans

A couple of things I want to share with you between trips to the post office.

First  of all if you haven't tuned into the brand spankin' new Cotton Mather Facebook page please come and say hi!

The PR campaign has just started and the more activity the better.

Plus I can start to communicate the CM news there as it develops.

(we have to stop meeting this way!)

Also something really cool that has come to my attention is a wonderful documentary series called "Shaking Through"

Its a really creative and interesting collaborative between some film makers and artists exploring the process of studio creation in a very short period of time. Really cool. Here is their project which I find worthy of support.

Legendary indie rock outfit Cotton Mather was founded by Robert Harrison of Austin, Texas in the early 1990s. What started as an experimental collaboration with cellist Nat Shelton had by 1993 evolved into a guitar driven pop quartet defined by accessible melodies, strong vocal harmonies and lyrical wit.
The group (with the lineup Robert Harrison- guitar and vocals, Whit Williams guitar and vocals, Matt Hovis- bass and Greg Thibeaux- drums) released their debut Cotton is King in 1994 on the short lived ELM label. The follow-up Kontiki, famously recorded on 4-track cassette and ADAT drew praise from critics and rock-stars alike. By this time George Reiff had assumed bass playing honors and Dana Myzer had taken over on drums. "Kontiki shows the Harrison/ Williams guitar and vocal collaborative at its finest and even features pop maestro Darin Murphy on some drum tracks. In his 2007 book, Shake Some Action, John Borack rated Kontiki number 26 of his Top 200 Power Pop Albums of all time, comparing the album to Revolver-era Beatles, Big Star, and Apples in Stereo. NME suggested Cotton Mather might just be "... the most exciting guitar pop band since Supergrass."
The group's final lineup with Harrison, Williams, Myzer and Josh Gravelin (bass) released the 7 song mini-album Hotel Baltimore in 2000 and The Big Picture in 2002.
Robert Harrison's latest band Future Clouds and Radar was named Debut Artist of the Year by Harp Magazine in 2007. The band has released two critically acclaimed records and Harrison is launching launching a new project this fall called Sir Parker.
