Legendary indie rock outfit Cotton Mather was founded by Robert Harrison of Austin, Texas in the early 1990s. What started as an experimental collaboration with cellist Nat Shelton had by 1993 evolved into a guitar driven pop quartet defined by accessible melodies, strong vocal harmonies and lyrical wit.
The group (with the lineup Robert Harrison- guitar and vocals, Whit Williams guitar and vocals, Matt Hovis- bass and Greg Thibeaux- drums) released their debut Cotton is King in 1994 on the short lived ELM label. The follow-up Kontiki, famously recorded on 4-track cassette and ADAT drew praise from critics and rock-stars alike. By this time George Reiff had assumed bass playing honors and Dana Myzer had taken over on drums. "Kontiki shows the Harrison/ Williams guitar and vocal collaborative at its finest and even features pop maestro Darin Murphy on some drum tracks. In his 2007 book, Shake Some Action, John Borack rated Kontiki number 26 of his Top 200 Power Pop Albums of all time, comparing the album to Revolver-era Beatles, Big Star, and Apples in Stereo. NME suggested Cotton Mather might just be "... the most exciting guitar pop band since Supergrass."
The group's final lineup with Harrison, Williams, Myzer and Josh Gravelin (bass) released the 7 song mini-album Hotel Baltimore in 2000 and The Big Picture in 2002.
Robert Harrison's latest band Future Clouds and Radar was named Debut Artist of the Year by Harp Magazine in 2007. The band has released two critically acclaimed records and Harrison is launching launching a new project this fall called Sir Parker.

I received my CD 2 weeks ago, simply amazing, all the notes were a joyful reading, thanks Robert, I was comparing my original Kontiki CD, mine is Copper Records, dunno if the Rainbow Quartz is different. And I found a difference for the locations Rancho Gordo in the original ; and Delux Version Rancho GordoN.
The packaging superb!
I received my CD and T-Shirt today and am playing it as I type (the CD not the Tee). It sounds amazing, the shirt and packaging are great and all is well in the world. You are always welcome in Beverley Mr Harrison. One day I will come to Austin and soak up the inspiration. Thanks and God bless you sir.
I received my Kontiki Deluxe delivery today! Great packaging and production! I'm glad I could play a small part in getting this re-issued!
I haven't received yet mine, but I live in Rome, so I think that will come for the first days of January... I hope! :-)
Got mine yesterday. Packaging is ace, disc sounds great. Just finished listening to the bonus disc for the first time - great stuff!! The "mean" version of Altar Boy is fab, and the acoustic version of Camp Hill might just find its way into my band's set list...
I am a happy man!
see you at dog and duck
Received my CD yesterday! Love it! Autographed baseball card was a fun bonus. Thank You!
Kontiki plays while I type this and the clarity is noticeable. From a band I used to describe to friends as the Beatles if they were a garage band, to now sounding like George Martin himself got his hands on the album. I'm impressed and I was always impressed just more now. I hope this incarnation of Kontiki exposes the album to a wider audience and makes the boys lots of cash.
Got my CD today in the mail! The production value of the packaging was well worth the donation! I can't wait to listen to it tomorrow! Rock!!
Largehearted boy has the remastered My Before And After, which is a nice coup I think. Just a taste for the masses which I hope will spur sales for one of the great albums of all time.
By the way, i didn't get the mail about the delivery informations...
Hi everyone !
did anyone get his copy of the album yet ?
Shall we get it for Chritmas ? That would be a nice gift !!
Hi Robert! There are many Cotton Mather fans outside Usa, so I wanna tell you if is possible realize a video recording of SXSW reunion gig!(also amateur recording with iphone or camera and posting it on youtube) So all fans around the world could be able to see this amazing concert!
And If the video is not possible at least an audio recording :-)
I can't wait to hear it!
For me the right answers are 2 and 4! :-)
Cheers from Italy!
Hi Robert! Statements 6 and 7 are correct. Right? Thanks!
Can we have update?
I am massively looking forward to this!
Hello Robert, I was wondering if it would be possible to get some info. about the t-shirt (brand/sizing) to make sure that I order the right size...
I haven't received delivery info and i'm a 100$ backerrrrrrrr !!!!!
Robert, you should throw a show celebrating the launch of Kontiki Deluxe in NYC and bring over Noel Gallagher to guest play with you on, say, She's Only Cool... That would be pretty amazing, I think! :)
Bonjour !
I haven't received delivery info too :).

Long live Kontiki! Long live 1997! (I was young then!)
WE DID IT
with eight minutes left to go....at last all cotton mather bassists both then and now, both near and far flung have at last contributed to the cause.
but of course, me being me i wanted a grand finish!
cotton mather forever.
My, my, my - doesn't this record have some legs! would love to hear it on vinyl. Congratulations, dear Robert...
This is just the greatest power pop album of all time. Before they became scarce, Id scarf up any I found and pass them out to friends. Love turning people on to good music. One of the lucky friends left a message on my machine after hearing Kontiki, "you are a God!" That's what he said and I knew what he meant. Though I was just the messenger. I love the Big Picture almost as much and Amps of Sugarland drives me so crazy; my skin crawls, pulse quickens as the staccato beat blows right through me and as the drums roll and roil to conclusion I'm left half out of breath, exhilarated and spent. No offense to the greatest band of all time, but the Fab Four never did that to me.
Kontiki is my Radio City. I can't wait. Thanks, everyone.
Hey! You're looking good, Kontiki!
Can't wait for Kontiki Deluxe! I'm from Uruguay (South America) and I've loved this record ever since the Gallaghers recommended it way back when. Congratulations on your music, Robert! I'm a backer all the way. :)
Hi, robert!
So glad that it's done!!!
I hope that the vinyl will be possible to released. The dvd idea is great!
Take care, peace. Jean-marie
Well Julio, Vincent, Etienne... and everybody... I want to pass on that I'm very touched by the outpouring of support for this and so are the performers of Kontiki- all of whom I've spoken with over the last few days on phone or email. There is still much to do and figure out. My first priority is to create the double disc package- which means mixing and mastering the bonus disc and creating all the requisite artwork. I want to do an extensive booklet that talks about the making of Kontiki and the band history. I'm considering a DVD with a few extra treats- vinyl is being discussed and of course the publicity campaign is critical in order to broaden the audience for Kontiki. As for liner notes- stay tuned because I may be asking for your help! Would i like to perform in Europe?... you bet I would... lets see if there is a way and if we raise the
enough funds to make that happen.
Best wishes
Robert
So, What's next????
It's done! Congratulation!
I also heard the news about your project through yellow-sub.net.
But i think you owe us a European concert now!!
I say "european concert", because i'm not french... And I just saw a picture of Brussels in the video (1'38'').. you seem to know the place. Why don't you come back here for a "special Kontiki acoustic show in Brussels"! ;-)
if you get some extra money, take a ticket to ride to Paris and make a gig.
