A program interweaving 17th-c. music by Heinrich Schütz with settings of the same texts by contemporary British composer Ivan Moody.

Kleine Musik is a project interweaving nine pieces from the Kleine Geistliche Konzerte, a vocal and instrumental collection by the 17th-century German master, Heinrich Schütz, with new settings of the same texts by the wonderful British contemporary composer, Ivan Moody. The project was brought to our attention by Ivan himself, who asked if we would like to give the U.S. premiere of the program. With his blessing, we have reworked the material and shaped the program to fit our ensemble of two sopranos, two recorders/baroque flute, viola da gamba, and theorbo.

We have three upcoming performances, on February 27th, May 5th, and May 20th. We are seeking support to pay our ensemble members appropriate artist fees, as well as to pay a professional recording engineer to record all three performances. We will then produce a compilation live CD, which is offered as a reward in our campaign.

With CD in hand, we can approach more concert presenters, to bring this gorgeous music to more audiences.

We ask your help in getting this unusual program off the ground and in flight, where it belongs!

Our personnel:

  • Johanna Maria Rose and Karol Steadman, sopranos
  • Deborah Booth, recorders and baroque flute
  • Tricia van Oers, recorders
  • Patricia Ann Neely, viola da gamba
  • Jason Priset, theorbo
