About this project
Hello World! I am Bryan O’Neill, the author of Original Plots: The Unified Field Theory of Storytelling. I am here because I feel this project is a game changer and will help millions of storytellers around the world.
This book is all about storytelling. There are many books that claim to have the answer to original plot creation, yet fail to define what an original plot is.Have you ever been reading a book, watching a movie, or TV show and asked yourself if there were any original plots left in the world? Do you have an idea for a story and have yet to write it because you don't think you are ready? I struggled with these questions and decided it was time to rewrite the book on storytelling to create a new theory for original plot creation.
What is an original plot? It's something new, and different. An original plot is something that hasn't been seen before, or it can be defined as a new take on an old idea. To be original, you have to realize that no one can tell you what an original plot is. That wouldn't be original at all.
Half of an original plot has to come from you. What my book does is deal with the other half and give you a theory/process on which to build a story from. What the philosopher Aristotle started thousands of years ago, I am continuing, not by giving you a book of strict rules and formulas, but a guide on how to create engaging character interactions that will help form the original plot in an organic way.
Original Plots forges a new path that can help us all create better stories. Writer's, Filmmaker's, Screenwriter's, and anyone who wants to bring their story to the world will benefit from this book. If you ever wanted to become immortal, you can, through your writing. The good news is you don't have to wait around for this project to be finished. I'm not asking you to fund something I'm still researching. The book is live, and on sale now.
Why Kickstarter?
Just because I wrote a book doesn't mean people know about it. As an indie author, I don't have a big publisher to promote for me, so I'm asking for help from the online community.
Funds pledged will be used:
- to create hundreds of copies of the book for promotion and sale
- to cover travel expenses, convention space and writing workshops
- to pay for newspaper, magazine, web, and radio advertising.
- to pay for web site development/maintenance

Bryan O’Neill was born on June 17, 1975. In the early 1990s, he worked at General Cinema Theatres (before AMC bought them out). His passion for movies eventually drove him to post movie reviews on www.originalplots.com. USA Today took notice of his unique review style and quoted him more than once. He realized that the best way to fight unoriginality was to rewrite the book on storytelling, thereby lending voice to those who wish to tell their own tale.
He worked for years formulating the process that would become his first book 'Original Plots: The Unified Field Theory of Storytelling'. He lives in Indianapolis, IN and continues to make the world a better place for storytellers.
