Prairie City isn't just a Midwestern metropolis: it's also the site of Earth's first contact with aliens two decades ago. That's when the Klex'ra, an empire dominating much of the galaxy, introduced themselves as equals and friends - only to betray us. Today, thousands of alien refugees of Klex'ra opression make their home in the Scar, a segment of town obliterated twenty years ago during a superhuman battle. There's a lot of ill will towards these off-worlders, but the Response has taken it upon themselves to build bridges between the two communities - and to halt the many dangers that fall from the sky.
The Prairie CIty Response follows the adventures of Zeno, Dryad, and Cannonball, three burgeoning heroes trying to bring order to a city full of alien refugees, enemies from their past, and upstart villains.
Zeno, a powerful psychic more used to the board room than the beat. Dryad, a secretive lone wolf with incredible plant control powers. And the alien Cannonball, former commando with bestial strength. These three not only need to learn to work together, but must also overcome the shadows of their past. Zachary Osmond, long-time hero and Union-appointed team manager, will keep them supplied, well-trained, and pretty for the cameras. But the Mayor of Prairie City has her own ideas about how the team should be run, and will pull strings and contractual loopholes to support her agenda.
The $2700 goal will cover the completion of the first issue, as well as the printing of the issue and other incentives for qualified donors. We want nothing more than to get our project out to appreciative comics fans! Any donations that exceed our goal will go toward the production of issue #2!
I've been building the Prairie City world and its characters and stories for years now. For the first time, I'm ready to bring them to light for a larger audience. If you love character-driven tales of danger and justice, this is your opportunity to help bring our stories to light. Thanks for donating - there's so much more to come!

Our artist, Erick Adrian Marquez, has a style that's bold and unique. A graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, he's done several projects for Bluewater comics, including all cover and interior art for the Conan O'Brien bio-comic. He's currently working on the Sabbath title for Arcana comics, a supernatural horror/adventure with several familiar characters.
Erick's passion is independent, creator-owned comics, and this Kickstarter is his chance to get Prairie City Response to you. Once our goal is met, Erick will work on nothing else until issue #1 is ready to ship. We expect a turn-around of about two months as Erick inks and colors the remaining pages. Then it's off to the presses and to your doorstep!
You can see more of Erick's work on his homepage, IXT Studio.
Legends, fables and other stories have always been a big part of Marshall Edwards' life. Raised in Kansas City, he loved the X-Men as a kid, but really started to appreciate comics as an adult through the works of Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison and Brian K. Vaughan. He's currently working on a kung fu space opera novel - as well as half a dozen other projects he should leave well enough alone!
He's also the drummer and vocalist for the steampunk/weird band External Combustion Orchestra. He lives in an ancient house in Kansas City, Missouri with his artsy wife, giant dog, clever cat, and tolerable tenants.
