I was just at the NYC PhotoEXPO a few days ago, and found a very small booth at the edge of the show. They showed the most amazing device I have ever seen. Its called the CamRanger and it just came out about a month ago. It lets you wirelessly control your Canon or Nikon with an iPad, iPhone or an iPod Touch. It's everything and more then this project was and wasn't. you can see this at www.CamRanger.com and I bought one onsite, and love it!!!! Plus you can see the Canon RAW File on the iPad too.
It's the coolest thing I've ever seen - Bar None

Wow... This looks like such an amateur scam.. :/. Those pictures on the project homepage and the horrible video quality make it so apparent that it's a fake. Did anyone else know that in the video, the iOS app doesn't have any back buttons to get back to the home screen? Completely illogical... Guess that's what I get for backing projects at 4 AM when I'm half asleep :(

@Aramis,

Creator Aramis on June 6, 2012
@ Scott - Like any body who has worked in HR knows, if a place calls and says that a person has applied with ABC Electron and you want information, HR will ask for the waiver they signed, which is part of any application process. When they do get the waiver, be it by email or faxed, then the only information they can give them is if they worked at the company, what dates and if they are rehirable. NO OTHER INFORMATION CAN BE PROVIDED!!!!!!! So "If you want any other info, then yes you need a release. " is not true.
---
And I wasn't suggesting that Brad commit fraud - like you did if you called Canon and claimed you are from ABC Electron (Hey kettle. It's pot...you're black!) - as you may know, his account was deleted and it is associated with his email address. He could have signed in with a different email and his OWN NAME and still checked this page.
---
You now can go back to knowing it all. But just know, as you so eloquently put it, you committed fraud by getting any information from Canon, which I doubt you actually did. Now, I'm going to go back to the drawing board so I can make CloudPic a reality...I mean...I'm gonna get back to work doing something else, since I am NOT Brad.
Creator Scott Canon on June 5, 2012
@Aramis, You Are an Armature...LOL!!! You can call any company in the USA and ask if they have an employee working there by the name of "Anyone", they ask who you are? And reply that person has applied for a job at ABC Electron in a State. They reply with a "Yes, No, Never Worked here". If you want any other info, then yes you need a release. You can go on any People Finders site and research anyone, get tax records, Family Members Names, Employment History, Vital Statics, and for a small fee even their SS Number. It's all legal to do, and is avail to everyone. I use Background Check on the web before I invest any kind of big money into a project. And please!!! Really?!?! Stating about "Brad signing up under another name to read this" makes me question who you are? Who would say that? You are saying its ok to commit fraud, by using another name to sign in to read messages! If Brad was a real person he would be a Man an login under his OWN NAME and settle all this right now. For all we know Aramis, you could be "Brad"!!! Maybe I'm Really Brad just messing around and having a good time with everyone because I get off on it. Maybe everyone on this List is Brad, having a really good time! Since as you pointed out that we can login with several accounts as if we are dating with fake ID's.
Thank you this has been really a lot of fun,
Scott, oops! I mean "Brad" he he
Creator Aramis on June 3, 2012
@Scott Gross - I now call BS on you. No HR department in ANY company will give you information on a current or former employee, unless you have a signed waiver from that employee stating it is okay for you to have that information.
---
If you did get that information without a signed authorization from him, Brad can sue Canon. If you signed up under a new name and can now read this, Bradford, you should seek legal action.

Like many others, I'm voicing my disappointment with CloudPic not becoming a reality, and confusion over the cancellation. Some very valid points have been brought up. I'd agree that if you can't afford to lose your pledge money, don't pledge. That said, there definitely need to be guidelines and penalties. I also supported the Pebble watch and would hate to see them take those millions and run.
@Scott Gross , I didn't support the Trigger Trap project through Kickstarter but I purchased one through their site. I received mine a few weeks back, it does indeed exist.
Creator Anthony Porrazza on June 2, 2012
Did all backers receive the following message
Hi there,
This is a message from Kickstarter Support. We're writing to inform you that CloudPic Mobile has been suspended by Kickstarter. Your $35.00 pledge has been automatically canceled and you will not be charged. No further action is necessary.
For more on project suspension, please see our FAQ: http://www.kickstarter.com/help…
Thanks,
Kickstarter

Creator Richard Pasillas on June 2, 2012
I've read the posts of the past few days and like all other backers, I am very disappointed. However, I also took the time to read reviews from blogging experts in the fieldsof tech and photography to get their take and impressions of the project but no alarms were ever voiced. So, I applaud the few on this comment board who first raised questions of doubt.
As a side observation, how many times in history has there been soneone who has developed a great invention by virtue that there was no one (or nothing) in their background to say "it won't work" or that it was an unheard of concept. In this case, the thought that one guy could so easily (or not so easily as it turns out) put the EyeFi and SD card industry on its heals, played like a true David vs Goliath story. Problem is, that it seems, there was nothing "true" about the CloudPic plan or story.
I also want to thank Kickstarter for bring to light the only effective method for breaking my obsessive-compulsive buying habits. By this episode they have in effect added the watermarks of "questionable business practices" and "subject to fraud" upon the forefront of their website. And that's a shame because I could have been one of their most active customers.

funding was canceled???????
Creator Christopher Pettit on June 1, 2012
@Scott Gross... I can't defend what Darren has said, but how many different email accounts do you own? He could have a second account here... an earlier one? Never know.
...
Everyone is complaining about its a scam, I funded something and never showed. Here's the thing, we our investors in companies/people and as the same with the stock market or angel investing... somethings will succeed and some will fail. Never everything will be successful. Live and learn and take risks that you are only willing to lose. If you don't have the money to go to lose, don't invest.
...
On a side note; TriggerTrap... "It's a trap!!!"
Creator Scott Canon on June 1, 2012
@Darren Skidmore...
...
How could you be a triggerTrap backer when the funding closed July 31, 2011. Your Account under you name states the following.....
"Darren Skidmore joined Kickstarter on December 13, 2011".....
....
Well that is clearly what I'm talking about here on KickStarter about no one policing anything or what is posted!!!! Go enjoy your TriggerTrap because you are the only one to get it on the Planet Earth.
Creator Scott Canon on June 1, 2012
@Darren Skidmore, NO WAY IS THAT TRUE!!!! . . .
You Backed The TriggerTrap project here on KickStarter??? Really??? Because if you did it would be listed in your profile, and it is NOT! You backed 3 projects including this one being canceled. The TriggerTrap is not in you list, the TriggerTrap is nNOT even Shipping Yet. They just updated again saying they lost their Amazon Account because of problems with a question asked of them by Amazon. Now their Amazon account is shutdown for up to 30 Days! Did you buy the TriggerTrap Mobile Dongle from them on Amazon? The KickStarter TriggerTrap has Not Shipped out yet at all, or has the Sheilds!!! You want to withdraw your statement now about being a backer of TriggerTrap here!?!?!? Because you are clearly not being truthful about being a backer on your account name.
Creator Darren Skidmore on June 1, 2012
Scott I also backed trigger trap and received mine the other day. It does exactly as explained and worked fine.
I also backed a camera lens bag called the undfind waist shooter and was kept fully up to date of its progress and received it at the time they said, I also still receive updates on new stuff they are developing.
So maybe this one was a fraud but my experience with Kickstarter has been generally positive

I still stand by what i said, i really doubt this project would ever have been delivered. Even though brad did respond to some questions, for example power/Bluetooth. I did some research, iPhone 4s only supports Bluetooth low energy, hence the speeds mentioned 24mbs would never have been achieved. I also think compatibility claims were grossly exaggerated, and i doubt he even built a prototype.

Dang, i was sooo looking forward to this

Well I will up the mystery on this guy "Brad Hudes" from California. I made a call to Canon Corp HR division. They have stated that no one by the name of "Brad Hudes" from CA. Has any employment history with them in the USA. Nothing in research, or co-opt at all. KickStarter is never going to tell you that they goofed up by letting a Scam post up and raise over $20,000. Makes me worry about backing anything else right now. There is a lot of stupid crap on this site that should be weeded out better before they let it post. I'm a backer of something called the trigger trap on KickStarter, now approaching a year on the close of the funding, more then 6 months off delays for all kind of crap. How do we know that right now the developer of anything we invest in on KickStarter isn't just sitting somewhere on a beach laughing their ass off over the stupid backers that bought into another Vapor Product. Did you see that Watch thing that communicates with the IPhone? They raised Over $10,000,000.00 (That's 10 Million Dollars!!!!) who is watching over them? There is no policing of the development of anything. Anyone can just post fake production pictures, and mail out a brick to all their backers. It a gamble we are all taking. In this case Mr.Brad Hudes has his KickStarter account shutdown, and is no longer a member. His MySpace page was just altered to remove his work history, the Linkin account was just altered too for his access. He backed 1 Project here too, which also has him listed as no longer active.
I think I'm going to start a KickStarter project that uses your fillings and or braces to amplify my new HDMI to FireWire camera dongle called the (JokePLug) with a link to droopbox for 100 mb/sec upload. I'm looking to raise 400K. Which I will use to pay my house off, and move to Germany where you can't touch me and your money - LOL!!!

No. For legal and privacy reasons, Kickstarter does not comment on moderator actions.

Just sent a message to Kickstarter inquiring about it as well. It may have been vaporware and we were all just so excited we never thought to consider whether it was even possible to achieve 24mbps downloads over a flimsy Bluetooth connection... :(
Creator Torqued on May 31, 2012
FYI, I sent the following to KS via their "Contact" link at the bottom of the page. Maybe if they get the same message from a significant number of backers, we'll get some info...
"Could someone from KickStarter please let us (the backers) know what happened with the CloudPic project and why it was cancelled?"
Creator Torqued on May 31, 2012
Yes. It would be nice to get to get some info from KS as to what happened here.
Creator Terry Elvers on May 31, 2012
Anyone have any real facts?
KS, you canceled the funding why don't you tell us why you did that?
as backers we deserve to know.
Terry
Creator Aramis on May 31, 2012
PS His Profile is no longer on Kickstarter. Either he did it because the project was fradulent or Kickstarter did it because HE was a fraud.
Creator Aramis on May 31, 2012
You are completely wrong, Darren. Kickstarter does not have anything in place...yet. And Brad didn't cancel this because it would have said "Cancelled by creator". It was Kickstarter.
Creator Darren Skidmore on May 31, 2012
Probably Ismail and Aramis being so negative didn't help matters!
Maybe Brad had simply had enough of the negative comments and 'detective' work so decided to look elsewhere for funding.
I'm sure that if he was a fraud Kickstarter would have procedures in place to prevent him just disappearing with the pledge money.
I could be completely wrong but this is my opinion
Creator Christopher Pettit on May 31, 2012
It was not him... he just finished answering a question of mine like 30 mins ago. I'm wondering if some of the negative commentors below started complaining to KS? He wasn't up to par on passion as other KS creators, but he was getting it corrected.

hmmmmm....I wonder why.
Creator Aramis on May 31, 2012
Hey, look at that...FAQs!
Creator Christopher Pettit on May 31, 2012
Trust went up a bit... I was worried by the lack of response, now feeling a bit better about it. For me, passion is important for investing on KS.
@Brad One feature is there just a review a photo on iPad/iPhone feature... similar to like a laptop tethered to a camera? I have been looking for that in the field to preview a photo and not to bring a laptop out in the middle of long hike for landscape shoots.
Thanks.
Creator Aramis on May 31, 2012
PS Still no "FAQ section that should answer the most common emails that we are getting."
8 days and counting.
Creator Aramis on May 31, 2012
Gotta be honest guys,I don't think we will see another video. Bradford has already reach his fundung goal. Unless everyone drops their funding to $1 (and soon), he will have $29K+ to do with what he wants. You hope that it will be working on the CloudPic and have it in your hands by Aug 2012 (even if this is real, I seriously doubt they will be delivered before Dec 2012) but with all the speculations, I don't think so...
Creator Rudy on May 31, 2012
After having read most of the comments, I decided to bring down my pledge from $50 to $1, until I see an updated video/prototype that is more convincing.
Creator Ismail on May 30, 2012
Catching up on comments, 1st of all want to respond (was also called rude by Brad), dont think i was. Was just stating my case.
Now here is why i said 'beware', note i never said 'fraud' or anything like that. Brad may be real, and may really want to deliver this project.
However if you have backed a few Kickstarter projects, you will know. People say they will deliver (most times they do) sometimes they get delayed, sometimes there are technological challenges, sometimes they underestimate the costs and then do not produce the quality shown. Some people never end up getting their rewards (it does happen). Kickstarter accepts no responsibility.
In any case when you back a kickstarter project, you need to be confident and comfortable, and you should trust the person running the project (And his team/skills, if he has a team).
If however this person misrepresents themselves, then that should be a red flag. You can often find mis-representation by doing some google searches etc.
(See comment about Myspace one below, not sure if the person is the same. Though the profile seems to now be private)
In any case you usually judge a KS project by doing a quick sniff test, (The video is the first port of call).
For example:
- Is a prototype displayed clearly, and in detail? Or is just glossed over?
- Is only a still image shown?
Remember hardware/tech projects take some serious work, just ask the guys from twine (delivery of those have been delayed by 2 months).
At the least someone posting a project should have tested their assumptions, and done some prototyping. Going to KS for funding when you havent done this is all good, though would you be comfortable and sure that the product could actually be delivered?
Creator Georg on May 30, 2012
Hey Brad,
can you show us a video of your mobile app prototype? Just so that we can see something moving on the screen and images actually appearing on the phone?
After all the comments I got a bit suspicious as i have never used KS before...
If this project is for read I'd love it!!!!
Oh... and are there any plans for an open iOS SDK? I'd love to trigger my camera with your BT stick!!!
