About this project

Stage|Time Collaborative is seeking a minimum of $7,000 to fund two performances of a semi-staged reading of Beautiful Creatures, an opera.  Tackling the subject of environmental activism, Beautiful Creatures asks us to consider just how far we’d go to save the planet, and whether we’d be willing to sacrifice anyone of our(human)selves to do it.  The opera is at a critical point in development, needing investor/producer interest and funding to bring it to full production.  These invitation-only performances, held at the exclusive and private Norwood Club on November 10th and 11th, 2011, will enable Stage|Time to present the work to a targeted audience who can partner with us to take Beautiful Creatures to the next level of exposure – full public production.

About the Creative Team:

Jennifer Griffith, composer, brings her background in jazz and experience composing for solo and choral voices to the fore, giving Beautiful Creatures a stylistically diverse and intensely emotional score.  

Playwright, Dominic Orlando, has provided a character driven story that stands alone as a play, but melds perfectly with Jennifer's music to fully illuminate the setting, plot and journeys of the characters.

The visionary director, Christopher Alden, who recently directed the highly acclaimed 2010 New York City Opera production of Leonard Bernstein’s A Quiet Place, will be taking the helm of the work for the November stage-readings.

About the Cast:

Constance Hauman, Soprano, will sing the role of Eileen, the character whose emotional journey is the heart of the piece.  Please link to her extensive BIO to read about her accomplished and varied career in traditional and contemporary opera as well as an actress on the theatrical stage.
