About this project

HAMLET SHUT UP, the Los Angeles based, award-winning comedy presented by the non-profit SACRED FOOLS THEATER CO., has been invited to the 14th annual New York International Fringe Festival – FringeNYC. This crowd pleasing, often touching, hilarious live show needs some help getting across the states. That’s where KICKSTARTER and you come in.

The Challenge: To raise $3300 in 30 days, the funds required to rent a van and pay for gas to haul the set across the country and back.

Who we are & what this is all about:

Founded in 1997, Sacred Fools Theatre Company is a non-profit dedicated to creating theatre that invigorates, enlightens, and entertains in a supportive, collaborative atmosphere. Since 1997 “The Fools” have received 59 AWARDS, 102 NOMINATIONS and 39 HONORABLE MENTIONS and were recently named one of the "BEST LOS ANGELES THEATERS OF THE DECADE"!

HAMLET SHUT UP is Shakespeare’s masterpiece without all that pesky dialogue. The adaptation, performed by LA Weekly Award nominees for BEST ENSEMBLE and PRODUCTION OF THE YEAR, features slapstick, vaudeville, puppetry, live original piano score, and a shark. That’s right. Shark.

What began as director Jonas Oppenheim’s creative spark became the passion of the entire cast and crew--To create a show that could entertain audiences all over the world without the obstacle of language and to illuminate Shakespeare’s incredible story by reducing it to its physical core. This gut-busting, yet poignant, look at the bard’s decadently wordy tragedy is not only an homage to the silent film era, Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton, but to current pop-culture and humanity’s power to communicate, sometimes more clearly, without words. CLASSIC TRAGEDY. SILENT COMEDY.

This show features three LA Weekly Award nominees for BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE Kimberly Atkinson, Tegan Ashton Cohan, and Stephen Simon, as well as Derek Mehn, Jay Bogdanowitsch, Victor Issac, Laura Napoli, Adina Valero, Matt Valle, and Colin Willkie. LA Weekly Award nominated costume design by Wesley Crain. HAMLET SHUT UP is directed by the LA Weekly Award nominee for BEST COMEDIC DIRECTION and WINNER of BEST ADAPTATION, Jonas Oppenheim.

When it came to creating HAMLET SHUT UP it was clear this journey of a thousand miles would begin with each actor’s first brave and wordless step onto the blank boards of a silent theatre. The result is a work of art unlike any other. We’ve come this far, only $3300 and approximately 5,582 miles roundtrip to go! With your help we can accomplish this goal as all great ensembles accomplish great goals - together.

Thank you for supporting live theatre and participating in the continuing success of HAMLET SHUT UP!

With Gratitude,
The Fools
