My name is Farnell Newton, and I am an adjunct professor of Jazz Studies at Portland State University and run a high school jazz youth program (PDX Jazz Project) on the weekends (www.pdxjazzproject.com). I am also a busy father of four beautiful daughters, with a fifth child on the way. I have recorded and worked with so many great artists and bands and truly believe that it is my time to be heard through the recording I am working on. This project is my debut CD titled Class is Now in Session. I am passionate about putting this record out, and I need your help.

I am an independent artist, which means that I enjoy the benefit of creative freedom, but it is very tough to find backing funds in order to produce new music and CDs. My goal is to raise $5,000 for this project. The money will go to recording, producing, mastering, distribution, and printing of CDs. It will also contribute to the expenses of artwork, promotion, and much more.

The deadline to raise the $5,000 is Dec 15th, 2010. You will only be charged your pledge if the full amount has been raised by that time. Until then, I will stay in touch with updates and will include some song mixes so that you can get a taste of what’s coming on this CD.

The amount you give isn't disclosed publicly, and any amount helps move the project closer to the goal. I'll follow up with each of you after we meet our goal and deadline (I know we can!) to get additional information from you, like shirt sizes, mailing addresses, your crediting or anonymous preference (everyone has the option of being thanked on my website). We'll work all those details out in the end if/when the project is funded.

One more thing, please help me get the word out about this project and encourage others to help fund this CD. Let’s do this and create something amazing together! Supporting the arts and this project not only benefits me but the independent music community at large!
