About this project

Let’s Just Make That! is a TV show that turns people into makers by teaching them how to build their own home furnishings and fix their own home repairs. We used to be a nation of builders, but now we dial a handyman or go to Wal-Mart to buy furniture that is destined to fall apart in a year. On each episode, we always try to reuse materials, use tools that you would have at home and make everything as easy as possible. Through easy step- by-step instructions, patience and lots of enthusiasm, I can turn any viewer into a skilled and confident maker. People take pride in creating something with their own two hands that they can enjoy and show off to others.

My goal for Kickstarter...

My goal for this project is to shoot two high quality pilot episodes so that I can pitch Let's Just Make That! to national tv networks.  I'm shooting for the stars here so I want to go big!  I've been making episodes for a year now but now it's time to kick it in to second gear.  With your pledge, you'll be helping to buy lighting, audio, and camera equipment, studio time, a camera man and writer, as well as tools (which will also be used to teach local youth and women's workshops...men are welcome too!).

On each show, I go into a business, restaurant, or home to show viewers interesting design elements, furniture pieces, furnishings, or organizational solutions. Back at the studio, I show the viewers how we can recreate our projects at home. For bigger projects that may be out of our skill range or that may use tools that we might not have at home, I direct makers to local artisans and workshops for help such as welders, laser cutters, woodshops, and glass makers. This is a great way to get people out to discover their communities and to invest in the local economy.

Now for some background...

LJMT! got started when my mother, at the age of 56, became a first time homeowner.  There were several projects that needed attention and she didn’t have the funds to keep calling a handyman, so I started to show her how to do them herself via YouTube videos. Soon after, it dawned on me that she can’t be the only single divorcee with limited funds and a toolbox out there, and that’s how Let's Just Make That! was born.

A little about the host...

I have hosted local events, an international design conference and play trumpet for a street activist marching band called the Extraordinary Rendition Band. So what I am saying is that I am comfortable in front of an audience and cameras. I bring enthusiasm, wit, and energy to the show and as a black, southern woman who melts at the site of a power tool, I bring a certain novelty and uniqueness that is not presently on the air today. I want to empower people, relieve anxiety about home repair and construction and save people money. This economy sucks. If I can show people how to be creative, savvy, smart and to save, then I have a duty to deliver it. Right now people need Let’s Just Make That! and I am the right person to deliver this message.

Times are hard and people are looking for ways to stretch their dollar. I truly believe in the nature of DIY and the empowerment that it provides as a result of building something on your own. It gives us the power to think, the power to create, and the power to make. DIY is all about shaping your life and shaping those experiences that you have within it. I want to show that to my viewers.

And to you supporters...

Thank you so much for your time and interest. Besides much welcomed monetary donations, I am also accepting tool donations.  If you have cameraman or photography skills and you want to donate your time to the cause, I'll take that too!  If you know people that may be interested in my concept please forward it on. I would be very appreciative. “Why buy it? Let’s just make that!”

More about Kickstarter....

Kickstarter is the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world.  Every month tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the world of music, art, film, technology, design and other creative fields.

Every kickstarter project must be fully funded before its time expires.  But what happens if we don't reach our goal?  If we don't raise our goal, we don't get anything.  Donors pledge the amounts, but don't actually pay until the goal is reached and the funding deadline has passed.  We want to avoid this so please spread the word.  Everything helps! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
