  This is one of the greatest matches for me. I saw you tweet about this on twitter, Kristin, and I figured - hey, I will check it out.
  I can remember, in first grade, when asked what my favorite animal was, that I said "elephants!" I hadn't really thought about it - but to this day, I have always felt a connection with elephants. Always will be my favorite. But, all animals deserve the love - thats why I am so excited to be one of the many backers.
  And, for the Truebie inside.. you are my favorite TB character, so..... that works out, too. :)

  Kristin, after watching the video you posted, I could see how passionate you are about this project. I think it is amazing. Like you said, no one can do it alone, but when people come together, they can really help make a difference. I saw a nature documentary once that said elephants actually mourn their dead. That stuck with me...
  
  I hadn't been to a circus since childhood, until two years ago when I went with my sister. When I saw those poor elephants & other animals, I felt so bad for them. I still swear that the elephants actually looked sad; the look in their eyes was heartbreaking. I almost felt guilty for going to the circus. I also feel that way every time I go to a zoo. I love seeing the animals, but I always feel so sorry for them. On the other hand, though, I look at the fact that they are at least safe from poachers in captivity. Either way, people have to be the voice for those without a voice of their own. I applaud this effort and hope it is a success! Best of luck & I can't wait to see the documentary.

  I posted my experience in hopes that it will inspire others who also are like me and constantly see horrible things go on in the world but feel as though they can do nothing because of their personal situations. As well as to motivate more people who are more privileged.

  I sat for a while, moved and wondering how I can help. I am in poor health with no income. I then started noticing more and more returnable soda bottles laying around the house and garage. So, I decided to round them all up and return them to be able to pledge support. I ended up with a few dimes over $20 but needed to put gasoline in the vehicle. So, I ended up being able to pledge $10 from recyclable trash laying around the house. Please, if you can, do what you can too!

  The poaching of Rhinos has already claimed the lives of 300+ animals so far this year! It is an epidemic that is spreading day by day. With such strong demand from Asian markets, who wrongfully believe that Rhino horn has medicinal benefits, there is only one way to stop this sensless murder - at the source.
  
  What We Need.
  
  In an effort to establish their very own counter poaching unit, SanWild have secured three semi-trained German Shepherd dogs (Scud, Snickers & Tango) who are ideally suited to complete their training as active team members of the counter poaching and rhino protection teams.However, in order to finalize their purchase they need your help to raise the necessary funding. They need R15 000 x 2 and R12 000 x 1(appx $3000 in total) to finalise their purchase and specialized training. These dogs will be instrumental in helping SanWild protect more than 100 rhinos on private land in an undisclosed location.
  
  CPU* dogs are regarded very valuable and fully trained dogs can sell for as much as R150 000.00 ($18,750) each and the training of dogs by a registered company can cost up to R70 000.00 ($8,750) for each dog. SanWild’s CPU* team members have an operations commander that is suitable qualified to train our own dogs to:
  
  Find and locate spent bullet cartridges on a crime site where rhinos have been killed
  Find and locate wounded or orphaned rhinos in the shortest possible time to try and save their lives
  Find and track poachers before, while and after they intend committing a crime and kill rhinos
  ACT as an early warning system to rangers and handlers
  
  Attack and bring down poachers during a dangerous encounter; especially under cover of darkness when dogs can be lethal.
  Identify and find hidden rhino horn, ivory or weapons at control gates during vehicle searches.
  
  A sposorship package is offered, the details of which are set out below:
  
  The three dogs named above will wear collars with their respective sponsor’s logo and branding at all times.
  
  In addition to their collars being branded; the dogs will be kitted out with a special jacket branded in their sponsor’s logo. For obvious reasons dogs will not wear the jacket during their hours of duty but will wear it while on parade or during demonstrations to local farmers unions and when meeting land-and-rhino owners. Dogs will also wear their jackets for all photographs (excluding physical working) or media briefings.
  Each CPU* dog handler (only one handler per dog) will email a regular report on his particular dog and it progress with training and successful operations to the sponsor on a monthly basis. This report which may be edited by management to protect locations of rhino or ongoing criminal investigations may be used by the sponsor for their own promotion on websites or blogs.
  Each sponsor will receive a blown up photograph of their dog in action on completion of their training and passing out parade. This could be framed for your boardroom or entrance at a business.
  
  * CPU is the Counter Poaching Unit.

  I must say I'm very impressed how much do you want to save those animals and their rights. And not just that. You're a big inspiration for everyone and even with a small donation we made a difference. Somebody should do something about that project and you're right there, doing it. Maybe it looks like a small but important step. It's nice to see someone who doesn't care just about himself but also cares for a lot other things, people and animals.   I´ve been to South Africa in january and i felt in love with the country and the wildlife! But when i heard about what was going on with the rhinos, it made me so sad. I don´t understand how someone who has the kind of power and money that it takes to buy a horn won´t use it for a better purpose! The poverty of the people also contributes to this events. Sometimes it looks like greedy, but most times it´s just hopeless people trying to survive, to raise their families. When i was in Kruger there were a attempt against a rhino in a farm near by, the two kids got killed, just like the animal. This must stop!

  My picture is of Heidi, a wonderful Rhino who lost her life 2 1/2 year ago on the Thula Thula wildlife reserve in Zululand started by Lawrence Anthony. I went there with an environmental group to learn about the animals and what was happening in South Africa. Heidi was the 'last' Rhino left when we were there as the others had been slaughter for their horns or placed elsewhere for their protection. As an orphan, Heidi had been adopted by a herd of wildebeasts. It wasn't enough--even with guards--to save her from the greedy poachers. I could go on but my point is that the word has to get out to the world through education and knowledge about what is happening.......this documentary is so important for the animals and for mankind because we are interdependant on each other.........kill the animals, we kill ourselves. The world is a better place because of people as Kristin and her passion to help save the animals through her documentary.

  Almost retired from a 35 year career as an ecologist and deputy game warden, I have witnessed the horrific damage poachers are capable of. Greed is mostly the poachers motivation. However the rich "buyers" of animal products are the cause of this conservation disease. I am proud to offer support to your brave and noble quest.
