"If everyone you ever loved died, would you want to live?" This is a question six year old K'abel has to ask her self. Consumed by loneliness, guilt and spiralling sense of complete abandonment, K'abel is disconnected, and truly lost in the darkness. But when forced to choose between life and death, she realises that even in our darkest moments, a fire still burns within. And the darker it's gets, the brighter the flame. Raised by Raptors is the epic journey of a girl who has lost everything she knew and loved. But what if everything she thought she knew, she never knew at all? The first installment of a brand new graphic novel written Oliver Sykes & Illustrated by Ben-Ashton Bell.

"Raised by Raptors" is the first issue in an ongoing series. It will be printed in Full Colour, 260mm x 170mm and between 36-44 pages. (depending on opening and closing pages). We are aiming for high level of print quality throughout this project and we plan on using sustainable printing methods wherever possible.

The kickstarter version will be a First Edition print run of the comic. If the demand is high we will do a Second Edition print run, but it will be separate to this kickstarter version. Once we are about 4-6 issues in, we plan on releasing "Raised by Raptors" as a hardcover graphic novel!

Currently, the first issue is 85% complete. It will be completed by the time this 45 day campaign is up. From here we will be placing orders for the comic and posters. Hopefully, the printing process won't take too long and you'll have your pledge in your hands by around April. We will be updating the status of the comic every step of the way, so you will be along for the ride!

NOTE: £15,000 is not the amount we need to print this comic. Kickstarter makes you set a reserve goal and we wanted to set the goal high! This kickstarter is basically a pre-sale platform in which to do it all from. However, if we don't reach the goal, nothing gets printed...

So, we really need everyones help to make it all happen... So let as many people as possible know about it, so we can make it a reality for you all!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

As the comic is nearly finished, we don't see too many problems with completing the pledges. The only real set back that we can see is with the printers. Sometime printers can have longer waiting times for jobs than expected. However, we are on the case and everything should be fine for the expected delivery date in April.

  • When do I receive the PDF version?

    The PDF version will be made available when the printed book are shipped.

  • Why don't we just sign the comic rather than an insert?

    Since we both live on opposite sides of the world, it is very difficult for us to meet up regularly. Oli, also has a pretty tight schedule with his band. We will be meeting up briefly whilst Oli is in Australia. We have pre-printed the inserts and posters that are to be signed. This is a gamble for us but it's the only way we can provide you all with signed pledges. All of the actual comics and non-signed posters will be printed after and if the kickstarter is successful.

  • How will the original linework arrive? Will it be mounted?

    The Sml, Med and Large size works will come mounted to a piece of A4 sized card. Full and Double page pieces won't come mounted as they are already A4 in size. It's advised that you frame all pieces of original artwork so that they hold their value.

  • Why £15,000?

    Basically we are using kickstarter as a pre-sale platform. We thought instead of creating our own online shop, we would utilize Kickstarter's ever growing community. 15,000 is essentially a number that proves we are serious with this project. If the project reaches the goal, and hopefully succeeds it, it will prove that we have some sort of fan base in which to grow on.
