About battery life
We are getting lots of comments and questions regarding the battery life of the device, so we thought we would give a more detailed update on the subject.
What is the maximum battery life of the Leikr watch?
According to our calculations, based on our HW design and device configuration (processor, display, GPS, battery) the theoretical limit for battery life of the Liekr watch is close to 24 hrs
How do we plan to approach the limit?
The power optimization is based on 'dynamic frequency control'. If high performance is needed for calculations and graphics the processor runs up to 500 MHz. When only data recording and minimal visual updates are needed the processor runs as low as 5 MHz. For idle time between receptions of GPS data and sensor data the processor can be put in to a sleep mode where only the real time clock is running at a modest 32KHz.
What is the strategy to get there?
We will enhance the power optimization schemes over time through our SW updates. There is no need for any hardware updates, therefore the current Leikr watches should be able to reach the target battery life
Where are we now?
In the current test SW we have implemented just the initial power saving schemes and have more work to do with the dynamic frequency control parameters to improve the overall battery life going forward
