What does it mean that Portland, one of the best North American cities for cycling, has virtually no Critical Mass? What is the new bicycle activism?

What does it mean that Portland, one of the best North American cities for cycling, has virtually no Critical Mass? Is it no longer relevant in the evolution of cyclists or has the police crackdown just been so successful? What are the new goals of cyclists? What is the new activism? How are objectives reached?

This has been an ongoing documentary project with production lasting over the past two and a half years that has gotten increasingly complex. Every step reveals three more steps and important figures of the past and present.

The documentary is character-based, meaning that it will focus primarily on 4 or 5 people and how they have interacted with Critical Mass and bicycle activism. I want to show the complexity of the issues and the people involved: There is no good and evil--everyone is trying to manage the situation in the best way that they know how.

I have shot and captured about 150 hours of footage and have 15 more hours of planned shooting before rough sequencing begins.

I have made three other feature length documentaries and dozens of shorts:

I've worked on about half a dozen or so other feature documentaries and have a strong sense of what I want to accomplish artistically and politically with this documentary.

All money raised from Kickstarter will go towards pressing replicated DVDs and filing Freedom of Information Act requests for the remaining police documents that I don't already have.

I am working on this project for free. I have no funding for it, and money beyond the above expenses would go to tape and equipment costs.

I will post new edited segments and a new trailer over the course of this Kickstarter campaign and reveal a new character highlighted in this movie each week.
