Last spring, Cole Thomas wrote LYING in BED and last fall, with the help of some fellow artists, auditioned and selected most cast members.

Since then, the cast worked intermittently with directors and an acting coach. We are ready to rehearse and to, with Director TeeJay Johnson at the helm, perform LYING in BED for three Atlanta Metro Area audiences during a Valentine's week run! Although we have asked The Groom Room, The Phillip Rush Center, and the GA Perimeter College (Dunwoody) Campus for space to perform, all cost. We'll need about $2000 per show IF the performers don't get paid... we aimed "low" ($2,000) due to the short amount of time the FEB run Kickstarter page will be up.

LYING in BED is Cole's first effort on stage as both playwright & producer & she's finding that it's rewarding, yet complicated, especially were securing backing/capital/sponsorships is concerned. In fact, the fundraising is still happening this late in the process, means we need your support quickly.

LYING in BED, provides stimulating "edutainment" by blending dramatic & comedic monologues & sketches into a plot about the value & challenges of truth-telling. It provides clear, accurate messages about medical & psychological matters like healthy conflict & communication between friends and partners; the prevention of Sexually Transmitted Disease, obesity-related illness and certain cancers; & the ways orientation, gender/gender presentation matter (or don't) in pursuit of love and loyalty.

The script is written for a largely female cast, but is adaptable to other types of casts across a wide range of age, sexual and gender orientation, and ethnicity.

In fact, plans are in the making for the performance of male (including transmale) version of the show for fall 2013. The beauty of this play is that, cast experience ranges from novice to professional. The first run pays homage to black women in and after relationships. It looks at some of the fascinating dynamics within chosen family, too.

The producer is searching for venue sponsors in both Dekalb, Fulton and Gwinnett Counties in Georgia, and looking to branch out geographically over time.

In fact, a brief tour is in pre-production for the original cast (winter 2012-13 most likely) and that means you'll be hearing from us on Kickstarter once more. Meanwhile, other directors/casts may be extended the opportunity to put their spins on the script.

In the video, Kwi Bolden is Director. The other information shows TeeJay Johnson as Director. Are they co-directing?

Kwietha had to leave the project last fall after her mother passed away. She was able to work on another project out in Oakland and is continuing her work as an "Edutainer". Poet, Actor, Dancer, Playwright, and Musician Tamicka "TeeJay" Johnson has been performing from the tender age of five. Having performed in Bermuda, The United Kingdom and France, TeeJay comes to us from Bermuda by way of London.
TeeJay holds a National Diploma in Performing Arts and a Higher National Diploma in Performance, Entertainment and Media Studies from West Herts College, UK.
On scholarship from Bermuda Music and Dramatic Society, TeeJay completed her studies at Atlanta Technical College with Honors [Smart Is Sexy!] and is a recent member of Journey Performing Arts Center Dance Company. She plans to remain in the US and continue her foray into its Arts scene, making her mark in the fields of Poetry, Music and Drama and Movement.
