We've come so far!
Hi everyone! We are well overdue for an update on the Brownsville Farm! First of all, we will be having a casual volunteer BBQ THIS Sunday June 3rd. If you are in NYC stop by for a free hot dog or grilled veggies.
We started building in the beginning of May. We've been working every weekend since then and are about halfway done with construction.
This is a story better illustrated with photos... so:

This is our team! Ben Popper, Me (Nora Painten), Devin Lafo, and Saranga Nakhooda. We are all or some of the following: Designers, builders, architects, volunteer wranglers, farmers, home-depot frequenters, teachers, community liaisons, and food lovers.

Some of the plants: here we have cauliflower, the herb bed, squash and zucchini, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, large tomatoes, string beans, and eggplant. With all this sun and rain, things are growing really well.

There will be a student run farmstand over the summer, beginning the second week of July, every Thursday from 2 - 5 pm. The 5th, 6th, and 7th graders from PS/IS 323 will operate this market. There will also be a community market on our farm site run by a nearby health organization, BMS, on Saturdays.
Student Farm Project has officially incorporated as a non-profit organization and we are actively looking for funding opportunities. Please be in touch with any leads!
Want to come volunteer or just come see the progress we've made? We are still working pretty much every Saturday and Sunday from 10 - 5. Be sure to visit the website for more updates and volunteer day detials! (www.studentfarmproject.com)
We also have a new Facebook page that you can "like" and check out volunteer day photos.

There are more events on the horizon - A mural dedication at the end of August and our Farm launch party in September. Look out for another update at the end of the summer! This project was possible only because of each and every one of YOU! Eternal thanks! Hope to catch you all on the farm!
