MAMA'S HAT is a short film loosely based on the truth. Funds will be used for Production and Festival submissions.
What Are We Making?
MAMA'S HAT is a short film about a little boy who just wants to stay home and watch TV on Sunday. Family tradition says he must go to church ALL day Sunday. From Sun Up to Sun down. This particular Sunday, things do not go as Mama planned and our little hero is faced with a confusing and challenging lesson that will stay with him for the rest of his life.
What Will The Funds Be Used For?
Funds will go towards production. We will prep in NYC and shoot in Philadelphia, PA for approximately 5 days. We need to cover all things production including our LA screenwriter. She has already begin writing on faith. We are working with SAG (Screen Actors Guild) actors. This mean insurance & workers compensation is required by law. Funds will also go towards the wardrobe, locations, two vehicles (the church van and the Powder Blue Cadillac), food, and most importantly the cast & crew.
We Will Be Different and New:
We will take a different and comedic approach to telling the church story. We will not use that typical & beautiful shot of a preacher and the choir singing in the church. We have a great comic idea that will show us the length of the day. Yay for LA Screenplay writers! Just wait until you meet Sister So & So! Think Benny Hill time passage tricks...
Why Are You Making a Short Film André?
I have ideas for a few Narrative Feature films. I need this short to place on the Festival circuit to show them my narrative chops. My documentary The Prep School Negro (http://www.theprepschoolnegro.org/) has already proven to be a hit before it is officially released. My backers have all seen a return on investment PRIOR to the selling of the documentary.
