The Storycubes Sukkah is designed to represent the intertwining themes of transition and the journey symbolized in the Sukkot holiday.
It started with an email. The subject line:
"I want to do this"
In the email, Ben Kaplan of Act3 forwarded the notice of the Sukkah City STL design competition to Nicole Hollway of St. Louis Beacon. Nicole forwarded it to Joe Brinkmann of Trivers Associates Architects, adding, "interested?" and the rest is a sukkah.
A series of lunches and meetings and the added skills of Camila Atkins later, our submission was chosen as 1 of 10 Sukkah designs to be displayed on the Washington University campus from October 18-22 as part of Sukkah City STL.
Our design, called Storycubes, represents the intertwining themes of transition and the journey symbolized in the Sukkot holiday. The walls of our sukkah are open and made of compartments, representing the time and space we share with others. In each compartment, visitors will find a small cube, each painted a different color and marked with questions about their personal journey and transitions they have experienced. Cubes can be moved to different compartments to change the light and combinations of color, redefining the sukkah itself.
The competition and the design both represent the excitement and pride our design team feels in the creative energy alive in St. Louis.
Funds raised through this Kickstarter effort will supplement the honorarium provided by the competition and help pay for supplies needed to construct the sukkah.
