About this project
Go is an ancient Chinese board game that is played all throughout the Orient. I went to South Korea to study at a professional dojo, and have written a book series on the game to make it more popular in the United States. I've been playing the game for about seven years after having learned it from a Taiwanese friend of mine. Go is a great way to meet new people and is a fun social game. It's also a great way to keep your mind sharp. I'm going to produce a videos for beginners, to teach the basic rules of the games, then turn it into a web series to popularize the game. People like my irreverent, yet fun way of teaching Go that I employ in my book series, so I figure I should turn it into a web series and get even more people playing Go.

Yes I did. It's called the "So You Want to Play Go?" series. It is available on Amazon. I wrote the books to make Go accessible for a Western audience.

Go has three rules and only requires a board and two colored stones to play. Some people start playing Go at a very young age, around 4, so the game is really appropriate for all ages. There's no ceiling for improvement, so everyone can enjoy the game even if they're not as good as a professional.

When I started playing Go there were few Go books written in English. I learned from a lot of trial and error. I speak Japanese and Chinese, so that helped, but the way Go is taught in the Orient is quite different. They rely more on showing dozens of examples, and they assume you are already very interested in the game. Go books in Asia are typically dull. My style is to make Go entertaining and engaging, with a dash of humor.

I would like to have the videos professionally done so that they look polished. I tried doing it myself, but I have no experience doing video. My initial experiments did not come out so hot. I'm having a friend of mine who does video for a living help me create the series, then make it available on DVD. It'll look sleek and spiffy!
