Hello! My name is Kira Whiting and I am a classical pianist in Portland, Oregon. There is nothing else in this world that I would rather be doing, and I count myself lucky to be able to do what I love. Last fall, I decided to apply for graduate school to continue my formal education, and now, after taking these years to live and work in Portland, I am going off to New York City to pursue my master's degree in classical accompanying at the Manhattan School of Music this fall. This project is a thank-you and good-bye to Portland - to a city that I have loved being a part of these past few years. I will be recording my debut album of solo piano works featuring pieces by Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, Frederic Chopin, Erik Satie, and Scott Joplin. My sound engineer, Neil Blake, and I have found a great location to record in SE Portland. We put down a couple of test tracks the other day - in a space flocked by baby grands, hardwood floors, brick walls and signed pictures of the piano gods. We will do the recording in June & July, and the shiny new product will be available come August! Raino Isto, a future Balkan art history graduate student, will be doing the cover art for the CD, and I have invited Christopher Hanson to do a special remix track as a treat for the classical listener.
