She The Hard Way is the first project of its kind! Under the direction of Atlanta’s super producer Sol Messiah, 5 incredible female emcees living in the Atlanta area (Khalilah Ali, Rita J, Boog Brown, Sa-Roc and Stahhr) are coming together to resurrect the art of emceeing on one album. She The Hard Way is a project consistent of two parts- the CD and a mini documentary of the album making process from recording to distribution and performances. This album seeks to reinforce the voice of the female emcee.

Meet the Team:

Sol Messiah – A nationally acclaimed dj/producer, Sol Messiah has created music for the likes of Dead Prez, Jay Z, Chamillionaire, and Nappy Roots. He is a true hip-hop legacy, putting more than 20 years into the game. He was inspired by the 5 emcees talent, and created the She The Hard Way project to wed his soulful sound with their masterful lyricism.

Renay Nailon – An artistic visionary, Renay Nailon uses her insightful eye to translate the ordinary into striking imagery. A trained filmmaker fueled by her love for hip-hop, Renay joined the She the Hard Way project for a chance to present strong, positive, and extraordinary images of women in this musical genre.

Meet the Emcees:
Rita J – Rita J. is a fresh young talent from Chicago, IL She puts her all into her thought process, lyrics, and message. "Growing up there was little to no positive female representation besides the greats of MC Lyte and Queen Latifah." She strives to change that void and represent the female emcee that has been rarely seen or heard in the past decade.

Khalilah Ali – Originally from Youngstown, OH, Khalilah is a child of the hip-hop generation and accepting of the title "conscious lyricist". Khalilah strives expose hip-hop to a wider audience. Her interest in postcolonial and feminist studies allows her to envision a world that deals with the effects of hegemony and how dealing with that inequity can help devise steps to afford the world's children an equal playing field.

Sa-Roc – Saroc the mc hails from the southeastern area of Washington DC, Saroc spits metaphysical ideas over melodic hip hop beats, seeking to fuse knowledge of self with great music. A cultural griot, Saroc intends to reinstate the art of emceeing to its former glory, passing down the legacy 1 sixteen at a time.

Boog Brown – Born in Detroit, MI she was raised in the parks (highland and oak). Since she was a young girl she had a passion for words. Her Smooth yet gritty style is storytelling at its best.

Stahhr – Tennessee born emcee female wordsmith Stahhr, a self-proclaimed “lyrical warrior”, has been perfecting her craft and honing her mc skills since the latter part of hip hop’s “golden era”. Carving a niche for herself by interweaving intellect and social awareness with pure, unadulterated hip-hop, she provides a welcomed breath of fresh air.
