I made it!!!! Not only reaching the Kickstarter goal but also getting through twelve sleeves on my updates! It's been fun but more work than I originally thought but made it with three days to go...Storm has done designs for all types of music including quite a few for glam rock bands like Sweet and T-Rex and hard rock groups like UFO, The Scorpions, Rainbow, Anthrax, Megadeath, Bruce Dickinson, and the one you see here for Montrose.
Sex sells! You want it…you got it! I love this design not only for it’s anatomical study but for its vulgar in your face gesture. As with many HIPGNOSIS covers, here’s a “straight” photo shot in black and white film, sepia toned, and then hand tinted to give it a slightly off visual sense to the colors and hyperreality. The Gustave Courbet painting, THE ORIGIN OF THE WORLD, is a similar prurient close up and reportedly when owned by psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, was hidden from normal view behind another painting with a James Bond type gadget. Recently I found a copy of this record downstairs at Norman’s in New York displayed on the shelf and you can imagine it jumped off the wall and still had an incredible shocking visual power. You can guess what image adorns the “rear” cover can’t you? JUMP ON IT…ha ha…Mr. Thorgerson gets the last laugh…

ORIGINAL HIPGNOSIS PHOTOGRAPHIC LAYOUT BOARD. These are three original boards that were the actual designs by famed company HIPGNOSIS and include “Getting Closer” for Paul McCartney and Wings featuring a hand-tinted photograph of a lobster getting a Sunday walk down a city street, the surreal face pulling of Paul Young for his band Sad Cafe lp “Misplaced Ideals” and theater company Lumiere and Son’s film noir imagery for their “Dogs” performance. Each layout board is in excellent condition, measures approximately 14” X 19” and is signed by Storm (and have totally cool crop markings, notes, HIPGNOSIS business stamp, etc. on boards and cover sheets) PLUS “ASSOCIATE PRODUCER” title in film credits.
