A climbing wall with over 400 sq.ft. of climbing terrain built by 4 Bay Area climbers who want to bring bouldering to Burning Man.
Hi! Thanks for stopping by our Kickstarter page. We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing our passion with us to the Playa this year: climbing! We’ve already broken ground, and we need just a little help from you to finish this project up.
At some point in our evolutionary past, we climbed down from the trees and started using bipedal locomotion almost exclusively. We at Camp UP feel that this was a mistake. Fortunately, we still have 99% of those monkey genes in our bodies, and therefore we invite all you Burners out there to join the ranks of the upwardly mobile, at Camp UP’s handbuilt climbing wall!
While there are many objects to climb on the Playa, last year there were no structures that were specifically designed to be challenging to climb. Nor were there any structures where falling was planned for. Our climbing wall will be both, and this will allow every climber from beginner to expert to push their limits. Even if you’ve never climbed before and can’t do a pull-up, we can promise that you’ll find success, and with it, a whole new way of moving. Or perhaps you’re like us, climbers who, after three days of flat terrain, are just jonesing for something to pull down on. Or maybe you just want to see a few human bodies doing difficult things in vertical space. No matter. We still need your help!
We will use the money we collect to pay for the materials needed (about $2000), safety (about $1250), and the various expenses associated with storing, transporting (i.e. renting a big truck), and illuminating the wall. We have set aside a portion of our budget for decoration, and the more money we collect, the cooler we can make it look!
