Pirogi Union is growing up and out. Help us find a new home where we can better supply all your pirogi needs!

Thank you so much to all of our supporters so far. Just because we've reached our original goal doesn't mean additional funds won't be a super help in progressing this endeavor forward. Every penny from this will be dedicated to making a newer and stronger Pirogi Union!

Also: Due to popular demand, we're adjusting our options a little. For backers in the New York City or Boston area, we'll be happy to make a one time delivery or meet up sometime after May 2012. If you live in one of these general areas we will coordinate with you to make this happen! Thanks for looking and supporting us!

Pirogi Union

We're a tiny company with small roots in a home kitchen in Burlington, Vermont. In 2010, Vid made well more than 12,000 pirogis using just a wine-bottle rolling pin, one scoop, one cookie cutter, and some quick fingers. After that, Shuffles (see bio, bottom right) came along and we graduated to better rollers and better crimpers and made many thousands more pirogis in 2011!

We love making pirogis! We've enjoyed meeting new customers, supplying local stores, and catering some great events around Vermont. But we've also outgrown our humble beginnings. Pirogi Union needs a new home where it can rise to the occasion and keep the pirogi-craving public (you) happy! That means a lot of work.

Pirogi making is, in fact, a lot of work!

Pirogi making ain't all glitz and glamour. But we do love making them. (Almost as much as we like eating them.)

We've funded this so far with a lot of hard work, personal credit, help from friends, and every part-time job that we could squeeze in. Our equipment is mostly an old Kitchenaid mixer and odds and ends collected from odd assortments of used kitchen supplies. Our work space has been the corner of a kitchen with just enough space to crank out a tray of pirogis at a time. Thanks to a few good craigslist finds, we've had just enough freezer space to keep a little stock on hand.

In order to do keep this pirogi thing happening, we need a new location with more preparation and freezer space. While the tools of the trade are pretty simple, we will need space. And many more tables, racks, bins, buckets, and all sorts of sorting and organizing equipment to make this work. Every flavor we make takes up more space, time, and money! Our goal is to keep the mainstay traditional flavors and have new ones cycle through with the seasons and local produce. In order to do this we need workspace, storage containers, and storage space.

Workspace. Storage. Vision.

What is the next step of the pirogi evolution? We set the goal of this campaign to be just enough to cover our next stage of growth. We've invested many many hours and shoestring dollars towards this dream. If we meet or exceed our goal we will use the funds towards initial rent in a shared workspace where we can consistently make pirogis hundreds and thousands at a time. We will use funds to replace our tattered aluminum trays with good freezing racks, efficient freezer storage, and better ways to keep frozen pirogis sorted (it's incredibly difficult to tell what's in one of these things once it's all sealed up!).

With this upgrade and foundation we will be able proceed with our fundamental goal of making great food and good fun. We want to continue to find great ingredients, meet new local food suppliers, and have more fun all around!!!

This is where you come in.

We're asking for your help. Please show your support on Kickstarter and help us kick off the next step of our growth. With funds raised here we will be able to find and organize a new workspace that will allow us to keep making the same great pirogis we have been. We will be able to find a good workspace, good freezers, and buy enough worktables, trays, and buckets to keep track of thousands of pirogis all at once. As well as find new ways to use local ingredients in awesome new flavors!

Thanks for visiting!

Pirogi?!

We know, we know ... it's not spelled that way :). More about pirogis, pierogies, piroghi, and пироги on our site. Regardless, they taste great and there's no other food quite like them. Read some reviews here.

If you've never had one, we recommend trying one today! If you're in Burlington we might be able to make it happen just that quickly.

Either way, support your local pirogi maker wherever you are!

Note: Because all of our products are frozen they are not particularly convenient or cheap to ship. But we want your support no matter where you are! Backers outside of the Burlington area will receive alternate rewards or the option to pick up their pirogis right from the source the next time they're in Vermont! The exception to this is for those who are in the Boston or New York area and willing to coordinate delivery down the line. Thanks!
