Update #13: LIVE from the Moon!

Posted on November 20, 2010

We had a party last night to thank everyone who has pledged. What an enchanting group!

We played wind chimes in an orchestra conducted by Christina and Allison. We stood with pipes for photos by Evelyn. We sat and talked in the back of a box truck that Nicolina was painting. We explored the giant loft guided by Anya and Heather. We heard a super ball instrument played by Skip.

But before all that we counted down to midnight! We were $210 away from our goal of $5,000 when my script writing teacher Jacob Krueger jumped up and said,

"I'll match anyone's donation for the next five minutes."

People threw money on the table. People logged onto the computer and wrestled with a broken mouse. Two people donated by phone. I even gave up my lucky 20! (I had a Canadian 20 in my wallet that I'd been holding onto for years. Until last night I was sure it was Euro. I felt that holding onto it was some kind of investment, a hedge against the dollar. Also Euro seems like such a future money, a melting pot of economies. But look nowadays the Canadian dollar can be worth even more than the US one! Where's John Candy when we need him. He'd be a billionaire by now!)

It's because of these screenwriting classes (at the link above) that a spontaneous filmmaker such as myself became equipped to write a structured full-length narrative film.

Anyway in 5 minutes of movie time and 15 minutes of life time we raised $290 which Jake matched so the grand total in those last few minutes is $580 !!!

So that takes us over $5,000 and we are ON THE MOON !!!!!

Thank you to everyone who came. We have been shooting some beautiful footage with amazing actors and lovely performances. I look forward to sharing this all with you. It's a fun and freeing project. I'm so glad you've become a part of it.

-Fritz

Update #12: 100 + !!

Posted on November 19, 2010

I have made a list of everything 100 that I have:

eyelashes
extra pages to read
un-sharpened pencils in the drawer
sock singlets
friends on myspace
assorted foreign language numbers that I know
sprinkles

but my favorite item on the list
is the 100 PEOPLE who are backing this project!!!

These one hundred people are each amazing and interesting in their own right. Take one at random: an anonymous backer who is a philosopher, artist, and street food expert. He has reorganized his life to all occur within 4 city blocks. He saved money on travel expenses but he also saved brain space. He was more free to think and I guess this lead to him kicking in to our project. Plus he's painting more! He (or she, remember anonymity knows no gender) has a studio visit in Manhattan on Dec 7th (come with us to see the new work if you like)!

I was inspired by this backer to condense my life. I'm always hunting around for food, I thought. So I moved into the local grocery store but I couldn't find the light switch to turn out the lights at night. I noticed there's a lofted space overlooking Veselka Restaurant. Look up next time you sip some soup. I brought my sleeping bag up there. But apparently the health commissioner had dibs on that spot. I tried another restaurant. Same story. Oh well, back to running over the Williamsburg Bridge...

Come meet the other 100 tonight! All backers get an invitation to the secret count down party in Manhattan!

It's not yet too late to pledge. And we're getting close to shooting something on the moon!!!
-Fritz

ps
In the time it took me to write this we have another backer! Woo whoo! I feel like i'm waiting to run the last leg of the 4 x 400 (that's 4 people each runs one lap around the track and passes a baton to the next person). The runner on the third leg is picking up the pace!

Christina and Fritz are a performance art and crazy dress duo in New York City and this week they were awarded "New York's Wackiest Gatherings" by the Village Voice. Fritz, "a film guerilla auteur" (Black Book), has made over 50 short films that have shown everywhere from IFC to rusty boat hulls to hulu.com. He wrote a humorous novel called How To Live The Good Life, and is the writer/director of the movie I LIKE YOU. Christina, a fashion designer and an actress in I LIKE YOU plays a mean bass guitar! She singlehandedly launched her own clothing line and boutique on the shoes of her string when she came to New York in 2004. Together they are HiChristina! "... a fairytale," (New York Times) and "two scoops of fun," (Village Voice), creating audience-participatory events and scenarios that explore new ways of being, fun times, and wild ideas.
