Clip #1 From Film: Thanks for hanging in there!
Friends of Following The Ninth,
I've received a couple notes from supporters asking, with some frustration, about the film and its progress. The film is done, thank goodness, but I and my distributors have spent a lot of time negotiating and getting the rights to the enormous amount of archival footage used to create Following The Ninth, especially the footage for the Tiananmen Square events. At times the battle to finish has been agonizing and a challenge to my belief in the project. Not having some of this footage kept us from releasing the film in Europe. And while I still don't have a firm release date for the U.S., I hope to have one soon.
I've attached a short clip from the finished movie, as we get into the story of how the Ninth became so important in Japan, where there are hundreds of Ninth concerts each year, with 5000 and 10,000-member choruses. I will post a few more if you like. These are low res non-HD movie files, and therefore don't show the real beauty of the footage. I recently saw the film blown up on a large High Definition screen, and it was shocking how the images are transformed from chrysalis to butterfly.
And thanks to all of you for keeping faith with this film after such a long haul, and with some time still to go. I won't disappoint you at the end of the day. I hope you will feel some pride in having supported a project that means the world to me, and that, with some luck, will have a deep resonance for many others.
