"legendary" indie zine chickfactor is printing its first issue in a decade. help us do a larger press run by ordering one now!
2012 is our 20th-anniversary year and we decided to publish chickfactor 17, a new paper issue. inside: interviews with grass widow, joe pernice, frankie rose, joe boyd, black tambourine, liam hayes and plush, rachel blumberg, bill callahan, sharon van etten, tae won yu, caitlin moran, maira kalman, fence records, king creosote; a jukebox jury with the corin tucker band; lots of silly polls and tons of reviews!
chickfactor 17 was edited in chief by gail o'hara. the issue's art director is gregg einhorn. our amazing writers and contributors for CF17 are: daniel handler, sukhdev sandhu, gaylord fields, dawn sutter madell, lydia vanderloo, alistair fitchett, bryce edwards, connie lovatt, dan searing, erica braverman, isaac bess, janice headley, jennifer o'connor, kendall meade, kurt reighley, lisa levy, lisa siegel, liz clayton, michael white, peter momtchiloff, pete paphides, rebecca braverman, robert mctaggart, robin davies, tae won yu, tim hopkins and wayne davidson.
we are excited to present the new issue but want to make sure that there is demand before we print them! we would like to do a larger press run than our current budget allows. if people are interested in buying the issue, they can guarantee a copy by doing it here. here is what we seek to fund:

chickfactor fanzine was started in 1992 by gail o’hara and black tambourine singer pam berry in new york city and washington, d.c. it was printed on paper from 1992 to 2002 and it has been online ever since (ms. berry left to focus on music in 1995).

our magazine is already designed and going to the printer, so I don't have to worry about that part. there could be issues delaying it from the printer, but I have built that extra time into my rewards information. the biggest risks and challenges I can imagine happening are relating to the services I am offering: band photos, bio writing and PR. I could publicize someone's record but it still doesn't get enough coverage to satisfy the artist. I have factored in the price of a plane ticket so that I might fly to take photos of a band or artist. chickfactor 17 is a fairly simple project, but I guess it's possible I could run out of back issues so I haven't offered that many for rewards.
