Hi Matt! The book is going well -- unfortunately will take a bit longer turnaround time then expected because of the new printer. (I assure you though - well worth it!) We're just working out some last details. Will have more of an update soon :)
Hi. How is everything going with the book?
Hi Amy,
I like your idea capturing people trying to be privet an public space make to look like it's not, like an illusionist inside the illusion. Being from Sweden, IKEA has a special place in my hart and in my home. It feel kinda funny for something so Swedish benign part of American culture.
Good luck in getting your funding, Lycka till!
Anders
I think it would be a great idea to see your art featured in Ikea stores. What a wonderful idea Elizabeth has. I see this as unique art resulting from a slice of our everyday lives, not an illusion being sold. For that matter, ALL advertisements are selling an illusion: of looking good, status, happiness, hipster-ness, trendiness, being cool, you name it. You should absolutely get this book on the racks and in the showrooms of Ikea. I think you'd be missing out on a great opportunity if you didn't try.

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for getting in touch. I am very aware that the work reinforces this idea. I think that is what makes the work fascinating, and makes it much more complex.
To answer the second part, I am not seeking IKEA endorsement. The plan from the very beginning was to do this completely independently.
Speaking as a retired showroom Interior Designer, the idea of a Lifestyle Vignette is nothing new. We've endured the low end versions of Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and IKEA for years. Whenever I walk through IKEA, I've seen see children playing make believe in these spaces, or adults dreaming of the perfect kitchen. And, I am saddened by our culture which stresses Happiness comes through things - as opposed to relationships.
This book reinforces that idea, that Happiness comes from something that isn't even real - from an Illusion. Even the meatballs - are a disappointment.. just a mere shadow of the real thing.
I also can't help but question if you have not realized this, and wonder if in reality, you are simply trying to cleverly seek out an IKEA endorsement, make a buck and get your book onto those IKEA coffee tables.
This very behavior would reinforce the idea of Deep Illusion and superficial toxicity to our culture. Lost in the day dream of IKEA - is not about Happiness or Evolution.. it is a pining for something that we as a culture can only find through the Heart - by moving forward.
