About this project
The Project
I am building an etching press of my own design that will become the foundation for Miller's Press print shop. The press is the most important and most expensive part of the shop. I am asking for help in purchasing parts and hiring a machinist to mill the metal. I have the tools and the ability to put all the parts together; however, getting the parts made for such a specialized machine is challenging for this kind of precise equipment.
Miller's Press refers not only to the physical press or machine, but also to the print shop as a whole. Printmaking is something that has historically been associated with a community, and in my personal history, with an institution or a university. Because the "shop" is a collection of specific and expensive printmaking items it is very likely that a young artist would not be able to afford making prints on his or her own. Miller's Press will be set up so that artists who don't have access to a press can come in and use this professional equipment without any cost to them.

Aaron Miller lives and works in Tucson, AZ as an artist, adjunct professor, and master printmaker. He has exhibited his prints, paintings, and photographs nationally and internationally, including shows in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Sofia, Bulgaria. Along with his personal art practice, Miller is an instructor of printmaking at the Southwest University of Visual Arts. He is also master printmaker for artist and Professor Sheila Pitt, who recently had a catastrophic horse riding accident, leaving her a quadriplegic. Miller works as her studio hands in the print shop.
Miller received his MFA in printmaking from the University of Arizona in 2009. His work is deeply informed by his relationship with varying class and social structures. His unique perspective allows for a harsh juxtaposition of elegant and industrial imagery, resulting in a visual world somewhere between reality and the flight of his imagination.
