Paper Fortress: Paper as Fiber is a group show featuring 10 Philadelphia artists and demonstrating the versatility of paper, a fiber form often taken for granted.  Working with handmade paper, recycled paper and paper pulp as their primary media, the artists present paper not only as a traditional support for two-dimensional artwork, but also as a malleable material, soft yet structural, capable of creating intimate artist books and discrete sculpture as well as large-scale installations. Each of the artists finds a distinct voice through the varied and unique qualities of handmade paper fibers and pulps.

Part of Fiber Philadlephia 2012, Paper Fortress presents two-dimensional prints and drawings, sculptural objects, and artist books by: Carol Cole, Jenna Efrein, Alexis Granwell, Karen Hardy, Daniel Hoffman, Lisa Murch, Ellen Owens, Erin Tohill Robin, Mary Tasillo and Bonnie Kaye Whitfield and is presented at Pterodactyl Gallery, March 15th - April 22, 2012.  Curated by Nicole Donnelly.
