Thirteen students and their instructor will journey to South Africa to chronicle the people, life and culture of this diverse country.
Each year the School of Visual Journalism at Brooks Institute offers an international documentary trip for accomplished visual journalism, professional photography and film students. Each year the class travels to a different international location. It is open to those applicants who demonstrate a solid understanding of photographic storytelling, the ability to work independently and with a team, and those who reflect sensitivity to their roles as socially responsible ambassadors.
In September and October 2012, thirteen selected students and their instructor, Anacleto Rapping, will spend six weeks in South Africa to chronicle the people, life and culture of this diverse country. Upon their return, the students will showcase these bodies of work through a multi-media presentation, print exhibitions, web site, book and a DVD.
Social awareness and social responsibility are at the heart of this documentary trip. The team will research and document stories that speak to the hopeful and inspiring work of the numerous non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) dedicated to helping the people of South Africa.
The central goal is to support the chosen NGO’s through our work with the hope that it will continue to make a difference in the lives of the South African people.
