An original short film inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

Dear Supporters,

A year ago today, we sat down with our favorite H.P Lovecraft inspired board game for a night of maddening terror and deep belly laughs, when something momentous happened. Somewhere between being lost in time and space and entering R'yleh we had a realization: There just aren't enough good Lovecraft movies out there. As filmmakers who have produced several projects including a post-apocalyptic romantic comedy and a zombie PSA we felt up to the challenge. So we decided to take a stab at telling our own Lovecraft story by making a short film.

"Miskatonic University" will be more a "proof of concept" then a complete story. The current script ends with a cliff hanger. The reason for this is simple: we want to make more. We want to tell several stories, not just one.The long term goal of the project is to expand the story into a full length film or even a  television pilot. Frankly, we think Lovecraft can be done as a serial drama... and we want to prove it.

For those of you unfamiliar with H.P. Lovecraft, he is the most influential horror writer of the 20th century. His more famous works include "Call of C'thulhu, "At the Mountains of Madness" and "The Dunwich Horror." Obsessed with New England, several of his tales take place in small towns all over the region. Consequently, our short film will be shot on location in Brunswick, Maine and the surrounding area.

Lovecraft's Miskatonic University is a fictional college in the town of Arkham, Massachusetts. It is the setting for our film and it will set the stage for  several compelling plots that will weave and intertwine. Our main story is about Thomas Highland, a young professor and World War I veteran, who comes to town carrying with him a dark secret. In an attempt to solve his own curse, he could bring doom upon all of Miskatonic.

We have assembled a talented and creative crew to make this short film a reality. Now we need your help in realizing our vision. Your donation, whether large or small will go along away. Look at it this way...

$5 is enough to feed a crew member for the day.

$20 will pay for make-up.

$50 will lodge an actor for the night.

$100 will rent a transport van for the weekend.

$200 will allow us to rent lighting equipment.

$500 means we can rent quality 1920s era costumes.

Please support us in making "Miskatonic University" a reality. You won't regret it.

Regards,

The Black Bag Pictures Team

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Film making is an incredibly challenging undertaking. By nature, it is collaborative, and it relies on the hard work of numerous individuals. Everyone has to show up, do their best, and follow through. With so many people involved (actors, designers, editors, crew) there are several risks and challenges. Shooting on location is a logistical nightmare. Even the weather can stand in the way of having a successful shoot. Costumes have to look right, actors have to be skilled, lighting has to light! All of these factors have to be perfect… or a film can fail. So we hope that you, as a supporter of our film, understand that there are always risks with filmmaking. But we also hope, that you believe in our project to help us see it through to the end, no matter what the challenge.
