'Orpheus Descending' is a masterpiece by Tennessee Williams that took 17 years to write. First presented on Broadway in 1957, 'Orpheus Descending' follows the relationship of Lady, an Italian immigrant running a mercantile store in Two River County, Tennessee, and Val a hot young man with a guitar and a snakeskin jacket who's been tossed into town. In 'Orpheus Descending', Williams poetically examines our need to live passionately.

This play is seldom done because of its ambitious look into the complex relationship between humanity's darkness and compassion. It requires an amazing director and a cast of 19 characters to deliver a performance worthy of the writing.

We are working with the Actors Equity Association to ensure respectful treatment and payment for our artists. Funding for this project will go almost exclusively to the participating artists during the two week rehearsal and performance schedule.

The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival (http://www.twptown.org) is held annually during the last weekend of September, in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Infinite Theatre (http://www.theinfinitetheatre.org) was a huge success in '09 with their production of 'The Hotel Plays'.

This year, Infinite was invited to present 'Orpheus Descending' as their Mainstage Show at the festival. The venue, an Episcopal Church in Ptown's historic East End (www.stmaryoftheharbor.org) has been selected and the cast and creative team have been assembled...
